Keep your rig built! What case do you use?

Thanks Puredrifting.

It is definitely an involved process. I still think I could have done things differently, haha.
I bought my case at a camera store that was going out of business. They had extra foam for $10 and I passed. Too late now. Hindsight and all that...

Yes room 39, looks like a nice setup. Thanks for that.

I think I'm gonna need to go with something deeper and a touch longer; I really want my camera rig to sit upright in the case, as well as keep the matte box attached.

By the way, I just returned from the Pelican case HQ in Torrance, CA, and they are an incredible group of people. It just so happens that Torrance is just down the street from me.

I had a broken latch on a smaller 10-yr-old Pelican case (1550), and took it in to them. They took it to the back and replaced both of the latches, the huge O-ring AND the handle with their newer soft grip handle. I asked them why they replaced it: "Aaah, it's just a better one. Nothing was wrong with yours; we just thought you might like the upgrade." All this for free.

Anyway, I was considering the Storm case, but that customer service deserves to be rewarded. They're gonna get a lot more of my business.

I couldn't find the shipping cost on that site. Here's one that I found.

Ground Shipping is $29.

This is to 93012 from them

Dan, thanks! That means yours is a bit cheaper than the one I found. I might just order one too.

For DVX100 users with the SGpro i managed to fit the entire thing with flip and rods still attached into the case that came with the SGpro. Its a tight squeeze but managed to do it. Its not the best solution and i'll probably get a nicer pelican or storm case eventually but its great for now.

also fit my firestore and rode NTG-1 with cables etc...

Hey all...

Im looking to buy a Storm iM2975 case to keep my HVX and Brevis flip mounted on the rails. Any HVX/BRevis Flip users have the same case?

Not sure if my rig, plus matte box, monitor, batteries, and etc will fit all in the case.

I believe if you take out the side compartment in the 16x9 you can fit everything thekreative. I have it for my hvx+sgpro combo and it's great.

i must say (as a Zacuto fan) that I love their case design.
I'm a pelican owner, but now I'm leaning towards storms in the future.
I haven't had much luck with pluck 'n' pick or whatever it's called. After about 6 months of general use... it was gone!

i have started to like the padded dividers like those in Kata bags and the sort. They're sturdy, rigid, and changeable.

Hi Rob:

It will easily fit. My Storm carries my HVX/Letus Extreme on the Letus rod support camera mounted high with the Red Rock 18" rails, the Red Rock follow focus and the Nikon 50mm 1.4 attached. I put my matte box on a lower layer of foam, I don't need it indoors so it made more sense to keep it separate in the case. I also have four batteries, 4 P2 cards, charger, Barry's book, owners manual, tool kit, extra french flag, focus chart, extra 85mm 1.8 and 28 mm 2.8 lenses with the geared rings on them and I still have room for a monitor and arm, easily. The IM-2975 is a big ass case, it's bigger than you think.

I'll post some shots of it tomorrow. It's a great case, I am extremely happy with it.

Excellent...I think I will go with that storm case.

I submitted a quote over @ www.ajcases.com

It looks like they could build a case to any specification that you want. Although I'm sure the price tag will be alot larger. But I figured its worth a look!

I also feel soft cases allow for better use. Much like light cases. Unless of course you are hiring your equipment out, then you put it in a bunker of a case. they'll still manage to break your stuff though lol

Just bought the storm case iM2975 today from cases4less...It's not gonna be able to hold my whole rig with the extended hand grips on it, but its gonna be so nice not to have to build from the ground up every time I go shooting!

I got a quote from a custom case builder ajcases.com and was a lil suprised at the $906.00 price tag, but hot damn I coulda packed a midget in with my camera.

Beat:

Your pictures are making me nervous. A rig that huge and heavy on a Bogen 501 head with no counterbalance (other than a bungee cord)? Yikes, you have an accident waiting to happen there my friend. From the looks of it, an expensive one. Time to step up to a real tripod.

If you take the lens off, that rig will fit in the IM-2975. I would never transport a rig with a lens that long attached no matter what the case.

Best,

Dan

Yes for the snorkel up brevis! I've got mine rigged up like that and in a few days I'll post up my madness as well.

Yes that was a bungee cord keeping it from falling forward. The studio said they had good tripods and when I got there thats the best they had :(
I have a super duty joint that can hold that with ease. We never got to far from the camera though because of that weight.
