I mean, come on... how many other tripods you know that can stomp this footprint?

Miller VJ legs, all the way to the bank.

I have to ask... Why? and what I mean by that is,

Why would you extend the legs 6 to 7 feet in order to be that low... Can't you just keep the legs short.

You are right. The tripod would be much more rigid if the legs were were not extended at all. Using a tripod as pictured in the photo makes no sense at all.

Would be handy on rough terrain I'd imagine...

Do you find that the Miller legs suffer from any "wind-up" at all?

What do you mean by wind-up? the solo legs are nice and light,, but i still find it a pain with the way they extend. Time to buy a second tripod and keep the miller for light weight stuff i think.

By wind-up, I mean the twisting effect in the legs you can get when you execute a pan - it's REALLY bad on low-end tripods and can lead to bad looking camera moves - I'd expect the Miller legs to be pretty good but I am just curious :)

The best test is to grab the bowl section with the legs extended and twist like you are tightening a lid on a jar - the less twist the better :)

Ben is training for the next Mars Rover flight, which he hopes to be on, where he plans to test the depth of the Red planet's dust for a new series of panoramic shots.
