What are you looking forward to seeing this year at NAB?

I can't go but would like to hear more about the Firestore type device from Sony that records on Compact Flash cards (for my A1) and also what Firestore is "up to", something new!!!

DVFilm/Raylight and Marcus van Bavel will be at NAB April 10+11 with a suite at the Planet Hollywood if anyone would like to drop by. We're not exhibiting but participating in Panasonic's video round-up of P2 vendors and also holding a mini-conference on Raylight. We will be presenting Raylight for Mac and introducing two new products, Raylight MXFX for Mac and Raylight ULTRA.

Cinevate will be there, and we'll be unveiling two of our "skunkworks" projects. If you're shopping for a 35mm lens adapter, you'll want to drop by.

Cineform Recorder!

Dennis,

Will this be your first year at NAB? I don't remember seeing you there before? If so, I would definitely like to stop by and see your products first hand and hands on!

No mini-DV recording in new HVX-200 at NAB?

No mini-DV recording in new HVX-200 at NAB?

I heard from a Panasonic dealer in Vancouver that Panasonic will launch a tapeless HVX-200 at NAB 2008 and that Panasonic will no longer make HVX's with Mini-DV tape recording. If I want to have tape recording option, I need to purchase before NAB. Do you know more about this? How much will "tapeless" HVX be?

Probably same price ($6000). I wouldn't be surprised if this was true. I don't think that many people use the tape drive anyway. Hopefully they will put a better LCD on the 200a.

I hope they don't do that. I like having the tape option when I shoot SD. I think there are other things they can do to improve it, like 1/2" chips.

I'll second the benefit of having the tape drive as well. We don't use it a lot, but this past week we landed a shoot that had to be on mini-DV.
Of course, I might trade the deck for larger CCD's. :)

But wait, there will be no 200a-b-c so this is all for not.

I think there will be no update/upgrade of the HVX200 at all else we would have heard some kind of info (there is always a leak in an organisation as big as Panasonic).

Wish i had the money to go down and check this stuff out.

No such thing in canada huh? Cmmon Dennis, put something together for us Canukian folk.

Rumors abound about all sorts of things, but as far as I know Panasonic has never made any announcement of any such developments.

it's more likely that whoever told you that got their wires crossed and they were instead talking about the HMC150, which is a new camera that looks very much like an HVX200 and it does indeed not have a tape deck. But it doesn't use P2, it doesn't have variable frame rates, and we expect it will probably be quite a bit less expensive too. It is not a replacement for the HVX200 (Jan's already told us that.)

If I want to have tape recording option, I need to purchase before NAB.
Or, perhaps the rumor is untrue and you can buy after NAB. Or even if that rumor turned out to be true, you could always buy used as well.

Nobody knows anything about this, as far as Panasonic's public announcements there is no such thing and as such, there's nothing known about it. It's all rumors and hearsay until a press release gets announced. Any press releases should happen on April 13th, as that's when Panasonic's NAB press conference is scheduled.
