1080i monitored on SD Monitor via Video out, not component? URGENT

Hey guys. This is urgernt!!! (for real =)

I just learned today that the director was not able to acquire an HD monitor for a shoot. All he could come up with was an SD monitor that has just standard RGB connectors. Funny thing. I've had my camera for over a year, but this is the first time I will have to send HD 1080i out through the RGB Video connector to a monitor. Can it do that? Ohh please tell me it can??? Do I just change the AV/Video out to 480i? We are shooting in 10 hours. Alrighty all. Thanks. Hope to hear back soon.

You should get a signal through the composite output regardless of whether you're shooting HD or SD.

Yes, all you need to do is configure the component output for 480i, and it should work with the monitor you described regardless of whether you record HD or SD.

Viel, we still use our Sony 9" SD monitor on location, even when shooting HD. For now it's worked fine. As we're doing more HD I'll likely break down this year and get a decent HD montor. But it hasn't hurt us one bit yet.
Relax and good luck on the shoot.

Sweet!

Sweet!

Thanks guys. I'm leaving for the shoot in half an hour and am very happy to hear this. I wasn't sure as I never had a request to do something like this before. All the best to y'all. -jason

We use this "downconvert" option for the jib quite a bit. Composite to the jib operator for framing, component or HDSDI to the assistant and video village.

I've asked the same question.
But my problem somehow solved. I connected the component out with 1080i to my ToteVision HD for my focus puller, then have the RGB out again to 19inch HD Ready monitor (consumer - it's LG brand) for the client to monitor it.
It works fine....
Before, I had to go with the RCA for the client to preview what's on the frame, leaving my ToteVision HD received only SD resolution.
