Benicio del Toro as the Wolfman

As a big fan of transformational makeup, I'm looking forward to it a bit. Although I've always felt that fake teeth look, well, fake, no matter what the price tag.

The article's right - doesn't seem like they'll be able to make the transformation all that drastic.

Still, del Toro seems like the right actor for the role.

Del Toro rocks hard and was almost always involved in serious projects (same as Anthony Hopkins, who is also on this flick) but I really don't know what to expect from this...I was always a fan of werewolf movies, but it's hard to make a serious one.

The original director on this was Mark Romanek, who is more interesting than the replacement, Jurrasic Park 3's Joe Johnston. Not that Joe's a terrible director, just a middle of the road one.

I do think Mark Romanek would have been a better choice. I love his work.

I love Mark Romanek, but he's not the first guy you think of when debating who should be directing a werewolf movie.

Exactly why he would be interesting. This story has been done to death and needs a fresher take, and I highly doubt Joe Johnston will bring that to the table.

I only hope that Johnston can do for the Wolfman what Coppolla did for Dracula (I doubt it though), which I consider to be one of the greatest most well done horror films in history (although many will disagree).

This project feels all wrong. Wolfman feels like a movie that should have stayed in the 50s (or whenever it was made). Joe Johnston is a very average director. Benecio is great, but he's so weird and out there, I don't think his acting gels with portraying a wolfman. Outside of film enthusiasts who know the history of this character, I doubt anyone will be interested.

Interesting tidbit: Did anyone know that Benecio had created his "Usual Suspects" character long before that film and was basically just looking for any part big enough where he could play the character? So he had a small part as a secretary in "Swimming With Sharks" and actually first used that character there. Much like on the set of the Usual Suspects, nobody could understand him and everyone was getting pissed off. So they actually called his agent and told his agent that if he didn't start playing the part normally, he would be fired. So Benecio ended up playing the part straight. Which is so strange since it ended up being a blessing in disguise. Had they let him use it there, he never would've gotten the Oscar and his career probably would've been much different.

Benicio del Toro will be an awesome Wolfman, Joe Johnston however I'm not too sure about. I'd like to see him make a wonderful but his track record is a bit spotty. Anybody know why Mark Romanek left/got the boot (however it happened)?

Ok, I just read that Del Toro is supposed to be originally from England on this movie and Anthony Hopkins plays his father. Beni is a great actor, actually he is REALLY amazing...but he's got a very thick stereotypical latin look, and even though his accent is good it's not perfect. You can definitely tell he was not born in an english speaking country. I think casting him as a english man is a bit too far. Not to mention he and Hopkins could not be more different.

Nonetheless I'm still looking forward to watching this.
