Current worth of a dvx100

Hey everyone,

I'm a new member on here and I'm actually looking into picking up a used dvx100(a)(b). I was reading some posts on this forum on how to watch out for illegitimate cameras being sold on the market. These posts said that a price range of $2400 screamed scam, but that was back in 2004. By looking through the classifieds I feel like I have a pretty good idea what they are worth at this point, but if someone could post some common numbers that they are being sold for, I would appreciate that. Also, what "extra's" should I be looking for in these camera packages that may help me see if the camera is legit. (By this I mean warranty, batteries, etc)

I know the number of hours on the head can affect the price, so I'll keep that in mind. Also, how much do you think NAB will affect the price of these older cameras? If waiting a couple months means saving some money, I'm all for that.

Thanks for the help,

Dave

I doubt any news out of NAB is going to have much effect on used prices for cameras like the DVX100. The mass move to HD is already in full swing, and used cameras in that class are already plunging in value.

A DVX 100b or A with under a 100 hrs on it goes for about $2000 for a b and about 1800 for an A, the old 100's are very rare to find on the used market, but still exists. I'll be selling my 100b very soon, I'll be letting it go for about 2k, maybe a hair under. has only 60hrs on it. Email me if your interested. I would like to do a local pickup or if you live in calif. We could meet. Just keep that in mind.

Cheers,
Jon

Used DVX100s may be rare, but when a new DVX100B is $2150 from B&H (after rebate - you also get Magic Bullet Looks and Barry Green's book), it might be tough to sell a used one for $2k.

Used JVC-DV300Us are typically selling for well under $1000k. They don't shoot 24p, but aside from that, I think you will find it compares very favorably to a DVX100. The DV300U is a little known camera, but it's a 3-1/3" CCD camera with all the pro features (lots of manual control, XLR audio, OIS, etc.), and can produce a great image.

I would say, everything that come originally, if not everything, the main things.

Box
Manual
Warranty Doc. if any (mine didn't)
Camera (a given lol)
Mic
Mic Mount
Battery
Charger

i think thats it, anyone else fill me in.

Look for the hours (run hours, not necessarily whats on heads), how often they got it a Pro clean (if any), the cosmetics, and any loose parts (that aren't supposed to be loose), and the conditions they filmed it in (outside, broadcast studio, etc...)

No warranty document doesn't necessarily mean no warranty though, correct? I'm not sure of the Panasonic USA warranty parameters anyway.

To the best of my knowledge, none of the major camera manufacturers offer transferable warranties to retail customers. Some third party extended warranties are transferable though.

So your saying if I were to buy a brand new DVX for just a couple hundred more than a used one, I receive a camera brand spanking new AND a complete warranty? Not a bad deal.
