I really want to know overall, how much money people spend for their equipment? (if you don't mind)

I see so many people here have all their cool equipment and wounder how rice they are (lucky you)

but seriously, I always think all equipments are over priced. and wounder why so many people buy them...(why would you buy a $1500 follow focus when your 35mm adapter is less then that??)

anyway, my guess is they are spending more then $10k....
so will I need that much money as well? if I want the whole set up?(Camera, Adapter, Tripod, FF, Mattebox, Filters, Monitor, dolly, etc)

...or maybe if I had that much money, I think I rather get a new car...haha

I can tell you my rig far out prices any car I have owned, or plan to in any sort of nearish future, and I plan to keep it that way.
And cars can't shoot films. No matter what your salesman tries to tell you.

Although, the SUV's with the rear view's...

Man, I'm afraid my girlfriend will divorce me if she finds this threads out.
The trick is keeping one step ahead and reselling the "old" equipment before it loses too much value.
Even though these days I shoot more personal projects, I've paid for my equipment with work. So, depending what is the aim of your investment you'll probably get it back (financially or at least personally...if that serves of consolation).

About AUS 23k. There's easily another 2.5k I could spend.

I drive a 4k (at best) car.

yeah, I knew everyone is speding so much.....(no wounder you all have the best stuff tho...)

well I guess it's okay if it's for a production or business matter.
but it's really a lot of money if it's just for personal use/hobby (like me)

I can imagine being broke in just a few days if I get everything.....

For me it's a hobby but I finally got another p2 card so I can shoot some weddings and try to get some cash back now.

Try to cut corners and you always end up regretting it. Good equipment is expensive becuase it repeatedly holds up to the rigors of production.

About 6.5k up to date. Add another 2.2k when I get my new computer next month :)

around 20k. but that's split between two people. the best thing to have is a brother.
Well, I've got two of them... didn't make it any better and when I was small they kicked the sh*t out of me :D

I'm clearing 10k now for the last 3 years. This year I might tack on another 5k though, depending on how well business does.

i only own post gear... two final cut bays... and we're talking about $50,000 for both (about $25,000 each) of those. that includes everything, the raid, the HD client monitors, good speakers, the desk...

Man, that's a lot of money!!!
I'm glad I asked this question, because I was trying to get to the point where you guys are......
but now I know I'm not even going to try ....

I'll just be happy with my dvx & m2.
experience is more important to me right now

I was just looking at my equipment list (along with purchase price) earlier this evening. Jeesh, it's a lot more that I remember. A thousand here, a thousand there really mounts up fast...
