50i vs 25p?? Quality, look, slow mo, QUESTIONS?

I'm about to shoot a film i've been planning for a while and I'm torn between using 25p or 50i (Land of Eng). I want the option of slowing anything I shoot down to a smooth slow motion (50% slower or more), which makes me think that 50i is the way to go. But 25p to the eye, seems to be a step up in quality - Is it actually a step up in quality? Is the difference only in the frame rate or is there more? I'm using my 35mm adapter, and will probably be shooting at something like shutter: 100.2 - does this seem ok?

So what I really want to know - is can I make my 50i footage look 25p in post? (even though it's slowed), so avoiding shooting in 25p and maintaining good slow mo???

I would choose beforehand where you want your slowmo shots. And there I would shoot 50i with 1/120 shutter. And for the other scenes I would shoot 25p with 1/50 shutter.

Dis be da best way to go... :P

25p has more resoluion than 50i and also looks a damn sight nicer, but yes it looks awful if you try slowing it down.
for best slow mo you will need to deinterlace anyway which makes it progressive. i would suggest using one of the preset shutter speeds of 1/120 or even 1/250 rather than flicking through with syncro scan
check out this slo-mo footage from smettli using dvx & sgpro rev2. he also explains how he got it looking that good using after effects
