quick release plate problem, Panasonic SHAN-TM700

I've been having problems with taking the camera off of the plate from the tripod. It doesn't seem to want to release it. Sometime it feels impossible to take it off. You really have to force it off. The plate I am using is the Panasonic SHAN-TM700. I am using it with the HPX500. Has anyone ran into this problem before? Anyone know how to fix it?

Once the release is tripped, the camera should simply lift off. I have 2 of these and have never experienced the problems you describe.

Does it slip into the plate easily?

Yes it slips in very easily and smooth. I have used a couple of these plates and have never had this problem before either. I could not figure out what is wrong. I even took the plate off of the tripod and flip the camera upside down and gently slip the plate in that way. It was still hard to release it and take the camera off that way too, even with no pressure on the plate at all.

Hmmmm.... I think I would contact Panasonic. Sounds like a faulty plate.

Is it new? And has it always behaved like this?

Take a look at the length of the set screw on the tripod quick release plate(the one on the tripod itself). I have heard of some that a a bit toolong and that will sometimes keep the plate from operating in an appropriate manner.

I looked at the screws and the bigger screw does seems to be longer. I switched that to a different spot and it seems to work. We'll see if this really fixes it. I'll take the camera out today and see if it'll continue to work smoothly.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I just had the exact same problem happen with my tripod plate. Only used the HPX500 and tripod plate for around 10 days of shooting so far and a couple weeks ago my tripod plate started to jam. I could get the camera off, but I really had to pull on it. I contacted my panasonic rep up in Canada, and they replaced it right away. The new plate seems to work just fine.

Okay, it didn't work. After a while it's back to getting stuck. I tried to called Panasonic, but I guess I got their headquarter and all they did was just transfer me from person to person. I guess I'll just have to look at local resellers and see if they can help me out.

Hi,

Call the dealer that sold you the product and they will help you deal with it. That really is the best way to negotiate an exhange with Panasonic as it has to come back in attached to the invoice by which it left.

it is definitly a screw length or placement problem, I've dealt with it on several camera packages.

the bad news is those screws are ridiculouly expensive. And most of the cheaper after-market ones are a little bit too long.

sometimes the one that is too long can still work if its put in the right hole where it doesn't obstruct the flow of the release lever.
