Best Tripod to for HVX200 and RedRock???

keep in mind that 100mm heads are compatible with pretty much any 100mm sticks.

to me the cartoni sticks are kinda pricey. they are great and since they are carbon fiber they are light. you can get some nice manfrotto sticks cheaper though. i got the 3193 sticks for around $400 and the f100 head for around $800. the 516 is a good head and pretty well balanced for the rig with the redrock but if you go naked on the hvx from time to time, you will find that spring to be too strong and you'll be fighting it. no adjustment for the spring which is a bummer.

So you think I should just go with "cartoni focus f100 tripod kit price: $ 1,299.95".

Ok so which head is better?

CartoniF100 Focus (no adjustable spring)

or

Bogen / Manfrotto Bogen/Manfrotto 526(does have adjustable spring)

Which should I go with? Pay the extra 300 for the Manfrotto 526 or save the 300 and get the Cartoni F100 Focus

??

well the cartoni sticks are great but you could find some cheaper sticks for the focus head and save a couple hundred bucks. i have been very happy with my manfrotto sticks. they are a bit heavy but they are solid as a rock.

as far as the focus vs. the 526, i don't have any real experience with the 526. i know it has an adjustable spring and i think it will handle more weight than the focus. if i'm not mistaken it doesn't give you continous drag control, it has like 3 or 4 drag settings. probably not a big deal but ya never know if you'll be hunting for something between two of the settings.

i would suggest finding a store to go try both out with a camera of equal weight or better yet, your cam. i'm sure you'd be happy with either of those two and out of all the ones you have been looking at, those two are the best.

From what I read the focus does NOT have an adjustable spring. Do you think that is a big deal? As like you mentioned the 526 does.

the focus definitely DOES have an adjustable spring. the knob on the back next to the bubble level is the spring tension. the knob on the side is the tilt drag control. and the ring around the bottom is the pan drag control.

the bubble lights up as well which is a cool feature.

one thing i forgot to mention. the sockets for the pan/tilt handles on the focus are standard 1/4-20 threads so you can use a noga arm to mount a monitor on whichever side you arent using. mounting the monitor down here rather than on the handle of the cam really helps keep the center of gravity lower and results in smoother moves.

I stand corrected. Thank you very much. CartoniF100 Focus it is then. Thank you for all the helpful info. Last thing, Where do you guys suggest buying it? BHphoto?
