Hey everybody. Just wanted to share with you a music video I just wrapped. It's for Toronto band Do Make Say Think. We shot with the Panasonic HVX on 720p and did some stop motion too with it. That was a new experience for sure.

I've also used these forums countless times for troubleshooting in post and for solving all kinds of technical problems so this is the first time I'm sharing my work here.

Click the link below. Hope you enjoy.

What is stop motion and how does it work?

stop motion is essentially when you take a picture of an object, in this case the bears, every time you move them. we built the bears from scratch so that we could move them very small amounts.

so for example, if one of the bears walked across the room, you'd have to take a picture every time the bear moved forward a centimetre. Eventually, when you add all those pictures together, it simulates movement.

that was pretty nifty! I'm doing somethign the same and I know you can set the HVX up to do something like that, where you hit record and it only captures 1 frame, what's the magic setup for that again? totally slips my mind atm

Nice! I really liked it!

Did you use some sort of wire skeleton in the bears to be able to move them around?

When the bear climbs up onto the bed to check if the girl is asleep, did she have to stay motionless for every shot as you moved it? It looks pretty seemless. She even moves slightly and it flows.

Thanks. Ya for that particular shot she actually passed out. She worked all day and we shot nights so for a lot of shots of her in the bed, she was actually asleep. You'd think this would be good, but she'd jerk or move around in her sleep which would sometimes pose problems. And yeah, we built all the bears from scratch and they all had wire skeletons.

Great Video. Very well done. How did you achieve the "Stop-Motion look" when the girl was playing with the bears in real time. I noticed that the bears were being moved at a regular speed by, what i assume was someone off camera, and the Girl was also moving at normal speed but she looked like she was jerky and animated. I assume this was a frame rate mixed with a shutter speed, but I've been unable to successfully find the correct combination. I know this is kind of like asking a Magician to reveal his secret, but I really like the effect. Much appreciated.
