I F***ING HATE YOU -- a film by SABI -- the extended 9-minute cut

withoutabox.com and the message boards there are a good resource if you have the time to dedicate to it.

Zak a couple of questions.

First very cool about the Dogme Cert.

Questions.
1) So I saw you had a private screening link at one point and now it is just the preview. I would like to put my new films on my website with a "private screening" option or something like that, password protected. I have heard from a friend that this is enough to satisfy festivals like Tribeca that don't want your film online except "for a limited time as part of an online festival" for example. What are your thoughts on / experience with this.
2) I forget two. Oh yeah ... your 600 on withoutabox. What does that buy you? I looked at it briefly once and it seemed like you basically paid them the same as it would cost to submit to the festivals on your own. If the only service is a list and centralized distribution of your paper materials (my understanding is you still have to mail the DVD yourself) that seems like not so hard to do from home, just make a stack of your materials and put them together and send them out. Would appreciate your thoughts on this.

1) most fests, don't care if the short is online. some of the big ones do --- like cannes. and of course, features are different. very different. but i've never met or spoken to a filmmaker who was denied from a festival because his short was online or ran in another festival. the whole "premiere status" thing is a non-issue for shorts. so if you have a secret link and password you are sending out to people who could help build awareness for your project.... do it. really, all you are doing is buying laurels to dress up your movie in. that's my plan... get the laurels, get a ton of reviews to quote, then self-distribute the f*cker on DVD and BluRay.

2) none of that $600 went to withoutabox, i'm using their basic "free" account". the $600 went toward 33 festival submission fees. i'll probably submit to about a dozen more over the next few months as more open their call for entries. i dig WAB because after you fill out all the info about your film, it becomes like a shopping cart... you select all the fests you want to submit to, make sure you qualify, then "checkout" and pay for everything in one payment. all you mail is your dvd screener and WAB tracking number and wait for it to come up as "received, in consideration". that's a nice feature, knowing they have it. then their is the message board community who is very supportive of one another. there was a guy posting about he just got his 60th rejection... he was 0 for 60... and still, people were very encouraging toward him.

Yeah, I submitted the Dogme cert link and another "clincher" that I can't reveal publicly. all part of playing their (imdb) game.

don't I just love me! Andii, what do you think? :cheesy:

not the review that i mentioned earlier but there is another review for IFHY over at...

go to

http://www.cinema-crazed.com

and look under the heading for "INDIE SPOTLIGHT". hard to miss if you just look for the IFHY poster graphic.

here's an excerpt...

"A wonderful glimpse at break ups and how we can cling to memories..."

Zak, shouldn't they have put it under the section on the lower right called: "Blatent self-promotion to the masses?" :)

Good work, I aspire to being half the pimp you are.

yeah, maybe. :)

truth is, i'm trying to build as much good word around this $40 movie (festivals, reviews and self-distribution) as i can as "practice" for unleashing "Heart of Now".

Very smart. That's why you are the Pimp Masta.

So how the hell are you getting these. Come on dude. Blog like the Corrado thread. Teach us your ways Pimp Masta. I've been sitting here doing nothing waiting to be noticed by some internet reviewy type people, and no surprise, so far it has only happened once. What are you doing to get your films in front of these onliney reviewy types!!!

I email them. and ask them if they would like to review the film, etc, etc. provide them with a private link and the necessary password to watch it. and voila!!!

I watched the 9 minute cut fully expecting to like it less than the 6 minute cut...cuz 99% of the time, the filmmakers' needs to add a bunch of of their darling moments only serves to drag out an otherwise good film. But this 9 minute cut is really good. I loved it even more than the 6 minute cut. It's really fresh and smart.

It's simple. Yet brilliant.

I just have to keep mining for critic's email addresses, i've sent out like 30 requests and so far, and have two reviews. but there are a ton of movie review web sites out there desparate for unique content to review to set themselves apart from the aicn's and joblo's of the world. at least, that's what i tell myself to keep going.... haha!!!

although i just remembered that cinema crazed guy (felix vasquez) writes for 'film threat'.
