So, here is something that I just shot for a friend of mine. It's just something that he wanted to mess around with and asked me to help him get that "Sin City" look: high contrast, selective desaturation. I Dd'p, edited, colored and composited this version. Not much of a story, but it looks cool if I do say so myself.

Let me know what you think.
Thanks

the opening shot seems to have a ton of noise. Is that compression or simply because you shot at dusk and were losing light fast? Just wondering, because a lot of other shots look pretty clean. I'm usually not overly concerned with noise(I kinda like the look when done right), but it seems a little more pronounced in the opening shot. The way the guy raises the knife is a little over the top and it would probably help to have more colours than everything being red. Bringing yellow roses or mixing up the colour of the robe would be cool possibly.

An editing note would be try having the still frame HIT right on the hard beat of the music. It helps disguise a free frame and also tricks the brain on a cut to help make everything more seamless. Maybe start off with more subtle music that builds up to the murder. It feels a little heavy right off the top.

filmbuff81- thanks for taking a look. Yeah, the compression for the flash takes any noise you may have and turns it into blocks of noise.

Thought so. I've had some issues with flash compression myself and just wanted to check on that. and I'm always down for looking at new work. One of the fun reasons for a place like this. Good way to gain inspiration for your own projects and get tips and tricks.
