Okay...can't really get my head around this...

You don't need to get your head around this because it is rubbish. This is a mix of the law of truly large numbers, RNGs and theory dependence.

A random number generator is as some have said not actually a random number generator but a machine that spits out a very long sequence of numbers in order. If I remember correctly, the only TRUE random number generator ever built was one that used lasers to scan the action inside a lava lamp and generated numbers from it. no computer chip can create random numbers. Thus the likelihood of these RNGs creating the same numbers at the same time is fairly high. Furthermore there is a good chance they actually talk to each other.

There is also a serious problem here with internet congestion and other communication issues but I'll leave that one alone.

As for the Law of Very Large Numbers it basically states that you can make any number look like anything you want. Most famously this law was applied to show that the email that circled the globe after 9/11 claiming that everything surrounding the accident could be boiled down to the number 11 was rubbish. The same can be said here: Since the numbers generated are relatively random, you can find any pattern you want in it by applying highly invasive theories.

That's where theory dependence kicks in: When you are a little too eager to find specific results in your research, you'll always find them in your data because you are involuntarily misinterpreting the data. This is also extremely common and it's why double and tripple blind tests are the standard. In this case it's pretty obvious that the "researchers" are finding patterns everywhere they look. But there's some massive problems with the theory; most importantly that there are hundreds of other global events that are not showing up.

What about the london or madrid bombings? or the election of a new pope? or the darfur genocide? Arguably these are not as big but they should still feature. it's also interesting to note that the events peaking are those that are featured in western media even though the majority of the world consciousness is in the eastern and southern parts of the world.

The last point in the video - the one about the peaking starting before the attacks on 9/11 - pretty much invalidates the entire thing because the world consciousness couldn't possibly have been affected BEFORE the attacks. You'd be better off claiming it was solar winds, alien mind control or even Santa Claus creating those patterns - all more reasonable assumptions.

This is bull. pure and simple

Thanks for the critique.

Two points, 1) i don't think anyone can say for sure that there aren't patterns until we've seen the data ourselves. If a coin turns up heads 300x in a row, it's hard to say that's NOT a pattern. There is such a thing as a pattern, but this video asks us to accept on faith that there's something going on here. It may be just as you say.
2) I was in SE Asia at the time of 9/11 and I can assure the event was covered with intensity and fervor by all media outlets.
3) the Tsunami was an event IN asia, so I'm not sure we'd we expect any westerncentric press bias.

I think you make a great point though that this is hardly good science.

Okay that's three points, not two. math isn't my thing. I'll shut up now.

I still can't make heads or tails out this video. Get it? Heads or tails?

I still think they should just test a group of people, every day, to see if they can guess which number the other person is thinking. Then, when the next catastrophe happens, ask the same group and see if they're more insync with each other. This could easily be done in a college or office setting, where the same people are available each day.

- On an average day 10% of the subjects were able to guess the other persons number.
- On the day of the martian attack 99% were able to guess the other persons number.

Remove the software/electronics out of the equation.

This actually proves a great point- The human race has way too much time on it's hands.
It's a bunch of new age BS because people who perceive themselves as "intellects" don't have to hunt for food so they've got nothing else to do but think up this crap. There's probably legions of gnomes that go along with it because they can't think for themselves.......

Of course that's just my un-intellectual opinion.

I dunno man, I'm still not sure. It's a coin toss if you ask me. Get it? a coin toss. That's a joke.

History has proven that you should never say something is impossible. Maybe in 50 years it's proven to be true. Maybe 50 years after that it's proven to be false again. You just never know.

Personally, I don't believe this project/test proves anything. Especially since it's being done with unbiased eyes and with hardware. But I am open to the idea that everything is connected, in some way, other than via the internet.

Well said.

It seems ignorant to jump to conclusions in either direction without an abundance of information (and it takes an equal amount of energy). I'm all for having an open mind and a foot in the exit door.

Sure anything can be possible, but it's also prudent to apply a little common sense.
If you don't you'll be strapping on new Nikes and waiting to catch a ride on a passing comet right after you and all your buddies kill yourself..... Yeah that was "possible" too and though I may be ignorant in my conclusion I've got a hint of common sense.

It's as batty as Nostradamus predictions in my opinion.
