Okay...can't really get my head around this...

Very interesting.

But I'd be nice if there was an "independent" study going on at the same time. Since their intention was to find a global consciousness that makes them slightly biased in regards to interpreting the results.

Thanks for the link. If it's ok I'll post it on another forum.

Just watched it again. You're right, it does sound like it's mixed wrong.

Or maybe our global consciousness is pushing his voice to go left. :)

Very cool.

But is the voice being hard panned to the left annoying anyone else?

YES! In fact, I had to start it over because I was trippin' so bad over that in the very beginning.

On a skeptical note, I do see how it peaks so often that if you look hard enough you are bound to see "patterns" (whether they are legitimate or not, I know not) But worth looking into, I suppose...

I don't believe this...

I also don't see why having that hardware is necessary to run a test like this. Why is it only affecting those devices and nothing else?

I also don't see why having the hardware is necessary. The chips inside the hardware have some form of built-in application which wouldn't be any different than having a small app running on your computer. Would it?

I've got my brother (a software engineer for 25 years) looking into developing something similar (but just a small app people can download - like folding@home) so we can have computers around the world doing a similar test to see if there are any similarities.

I don't think they're saying it only effects those devices. I think they believe that our global consciousness effects everything around us and their random coin toss is the radar detector that discovered it.

If it's true then could everyone PLEASE think about me winning an HVX or a RED? Please!!!! If we think together we can make it happen!!!!

:)

The problem is that some kind of catastrophe happens everyday so when the imaginary coins behave in a strange way you only have to find what happened that day and you'll have a perfect coincidence.

Every random number generator (RNG) has to have a seed. The distribution of the numbers generated from a seed, defines the quality of the RNG and is based on logic. RNGs sometimes use tempurature and others use a combination of mouse movements from random sampling of people on a network to come up with a seed.

The validity of the Global Consciousness Project is based totally on the method which the little box uses to generate the seeds. It would be interesting to find out what it is. I'm skeptical of the project because they seem to imply that the RNG is able to pick up on some mysterious force out there. In actuality the RNG is not a super-natural sensor, it is based on some physical parameter, if that. Spikes like those mentioned could be based on a bad pseudo-RNG (not seeded by physical properties).

Perhaps if we knew if it was based on some magnetic, electronic, gravitational or climatological sampling we could start to come up with theories. But I didn't see anything on the web site, so he seems to be generating interest in it based on how mysterious RNGs are to the general public.
ilauzirika - You're right, catastrophes happen every day but only occasionally does an event capture everyone's attention. 9/11 and the tsunami were such events. People in small villages in China knew about them. Whereas the daily catastrophes just get forgotten about. So it's "possible" that because everyone's attention was so focused on one particular event that it caused a distortion in their project.

If you believe that people give off energy then it is possible that, at certain times, if everyone's energy is focused in the same place then it could cause the world to be more in harmony and thus make a random number generator also be in harmony with other RNGs.

I don't think software or electronics is a good detector for something like global consciousness. A better test would be; when the next big catastrophe happens, immediately check thousands of participants to see if they are able to guess what number the other is thinking. Then compare that to other days when nothing big happened. Were the guesses more accurate or the same amount? That would be a real test to see if we were in harmony with each other.

I read about this same sort of thing in the book The Field. The author also wrote The Intention Experiment... in part to begin "the largest mind over matter experiment in history" (website). What the Bleep Do We Know?! is along the same lines as well (maybe not as objective). There are a great deal of cutting edge ideas, theories, and studies in science these days. So there is something to be said about the number of scientists that are seemingly wondering into a new frontier of science (probably most notably in astrophysics). Imagine describing the current state of our knowledge in science or the level of technology to somebody from 1800... 1900... 1950 for that matter. I can't help but be excited by things like this. Of course it is always hard to tell what is BS and what is not. Either way, it is unarguable that science is breaking some serious new ground.

What they need is a mecahnical coin flipping machine. :)

In the beginning of studies similar to this they (can't remember who it was... some university) actually used a device in which small balls were dropped through a series of pegs (causing the balls to fall through one of various given slots at the bottom of the device). So at one point, something similar was used.

yes I agree, thats a feasible reason.
But in the video he said that the distortion started 4 hours before the first plane hit the tower, so I don't know.

That's the thing isn't it. Maybe it's like the matrix, we're just going through the paces of something bigger than we know.

Great theme for a movie.... nah it's already used.

Don't they say that we only use a small portion of our brain, we may be missing something important that we wouldn't if we used it all. I'm just guessing.
as you said we may be part of a bigger system that controls our behaivour and many other things. Just see the dificulties we have to define the universe, or just our planets (look happened to the poor pluto, its no longer a planet).
