amazing flash h.264 streaming vid

I assume that this is the same kind of thing that apple uses for their product tour videos on their website. I always have wondered how their videos were hd yet they streamed instantly.

Well - if it's a video a full black screen with no audio... then yeah, it loads amazingly fast.
Otherwise it looks like it's not playing on my computer.

I have to admit, I follow his blog on a regular basis so I already knew the clip and knew it was all about crunching numbers compression wise with H264...
I use mostly flash when encoding for the web, the inclusion of H264 in Flash 9 will bring another quality boost - at the expense of a lot of people people being left out, because they havn´t updated yet...
Youtube AFAIK still uses the Sorenson Spark codec for the Flash encoding, so they could make a jump of two codec generations (leaving out VP6 and going straight to H264) if they ever decide to "upgrade"...

So does anybody have any idea how to encode files to that kind of quality? Is it top secret? I don't see any tutorials anywhere?

i doubt it's top secret, but he probably won't let on to his secret sauce.

seeing the video didn't have any controls, etc. i think this was a test that got out into the wild farther than planned.

the qual increase is great, but i've tried to show this to a few people and a lot had problems - not with the flash player, but bandwidth.

i don't know if that's a broadband issue, or if it has something to do with where its hosted (looks like italy?)

anyways, as i said earlier, i was still blown away by this and it's a great sign of things to come...
