I've been wondering if I buy an HVX200 in Canada will I still get the free 16g p2 card or is this offer only available in the United States? I have searched as best I can and haven't been able to find an answer, thanks.
Their MSRP is about $700 lower than Panasonic US's MSRP, so I would imagine that buying a camera + card separately wouldn't be all that much more than buying a USA camera and getting the free card. So it really largely depends on what country you're in, as you'd want to buy from your home country in order to get warranty coverage.
Yah I'm obviously looking to buy it here in Canada for the warranty however I have not been able to find an authorized Canadian dealer selling the HVX for less than $5200 (apparently sans free p2 card). B&H on the other hand sells the HVX at what would equal to the Canadian msrp with the free p2 card.. (which would actually work out to even less in Canadian dollars as our dollar is abit stronger right now) With that said I'm left in abit of a predicament as to where to buy from at this point in time.
well after looking into this further I'm unable to find an authorized Canadian dealer selling the hvx for less than $5400 without the p2 card...I guess Panasonic is giving us Canadians the shaft on this one.
5400$ is way better then last year, it was way over 6000$. +taxes....ouch. I bought mine in japan. I took a risk for the warranty.
Btw Vistek has the hvx for 5.199$ online. I ordered stuff from them before they are good.
Vistek has excellent customer service and I go to them for almost all my video needs. I bought my XH-A1 at Henry's, just because at the time, Vistek didn't have it in stock and it was the last day for a GST free sale. I had to take advantage of that, bit the bullet and bought it from Henry's...no problems so far, but I'm not sure if Henry's has the HVX or not.
thanks for the responses guys, I wasn't aware of vistek until now. If I were to buy from the US would I not still be able to get the warranty by sending it back to the US?
after checking henry's and dvshop I've noticed they both sell the hvx for $4999 but Henry's has the 16gb p2 card for about $100 less. Are these both authorized dealers? I looked on the Panasonic site but couldn't find an obvious answer.. Also what have your experiences been like with these 2 places? thanks.
DV Shop has always been very solid. Great people.
Henrys is also great, but I found their prices were usually more than the competitors at the time I bought my HVX (nearly 2 years ago). I finally bought from CineQuip / William F. White in Ottawa since it's local and they gave me a great package deal at the time.
DV Shop is a solid group, and they're our authorized distributor for the HVX Book and DVX Book and Bootcamp DVDs in Canada. That's not to take anything away from any other dealer, only to say that DV Shop is a good group.
I have dealt with both shops. Both are good people, but I would have to give Terry at the DVshop a slight edge, he has always come through for me. I too feel slighted by the fact the Panasonic does not offer the free P2 card here in Canada. Kinda feel like the country cousin sometimes to you Americans, oh well.
And hey wasn't this board started by a Canadian. Although he has relocated south.
Again, all marketing promotions are done by the particular territory, not on a worldwide basis. If Candians want the same pricing and the same offers that Americans get, you have to tell that to Panasonic Canada. What Panasonic USA does has no relationship to what Panasonic Canada does, or Panasonic Latin America, or Panasonic Australia, etc. They're all separate marketing companies, each with the authority to decide how the product will be sold in their own territories.
I bought my HVX a number of weeks ago after doing extensive research and comparisons between dealers in Toronto (Henry's and Vistek) and a dealer in Western New York. Because of potential import duties and provincial and federal sales taxes, importing the HVX from the U.S. would have been a wash, more or less. So for the sake of convenience when it comes to warranty support, I elected to buy it in Toronto at a price of $4,999 (without P2).
Both Vistek and Henry's will price match on the HVX and the P2, but certain staff at Vistek (who shall remain nameless) will only match Henry's prices if Henry's actually has the item in stock. Henry's will always price match regardless of availability with other dealers.
Subsequent to my purchase, I wrote Panasonic Canada in an effort to obtain an explanation as to why they do not package the unit with a free P2 card. Their feeble explanations in a series of emails verified what I had been told by the dealers I had spoken with: Panasonic Canada are not pleasant to deal with.
At first they tried to justify their practice by citing the different MSRPs. When I pointed out the fact that that was academic since I could get the unit for pretty well the same price in the U.S., they cited the "fact" that doing business in Canada is generally more expensive than in the U.S, among other things.
I finally dropped it as ultimately all I was getting was dogmatic propaganda. Seems that's all anyone gets from them.
The reply I got from Panasonic Canada suggested that the Dealer may match any pricing and promotions from Panasonic US. So, it is up to the dealers it seems. Have you supported your dealer enough to offer you a free card? Not sure why Panasonic Canada does not follow the US promotion, after all we are one big happy family in NAFTA!?
