Best Way To Export DV Footage After CCed In AE

Hi,
I am using magic bullet looks in after effects since they don't have it for Vegas. I would like to know how people who color correct their footage in after effects go about exporting it and bringing it into FCP, Premiere or Vegas.

What is the best way to export out of AE?
Uncompressed mov/avi would be real big, is that good or bad?
And DVDVCpro compression loses quality I thought.

Which works best?
Thanks
Steven

What was it shot on?
What format was it in before you sent it to AE?
Are you still planning on editing it?
What format are your other elements not from this batch in?
What is your final delivery to be?

Exporting exactly how you brought it in wouldn't loose quality. Especially if that is what you are going to edit anyway.

hi thanks
its all dvx footage
im used to editing in vegas where you just add magic bullet and it adds it to your clip. i was just assuming the b est way to color a video would be to do clip by clip. then export each clip back out and just edit them together in vegas. would it be better to edit the whole video then export it as a whole and do all the coloring at once in ae then export again?
i usually just export uncompressed from vegas and keep that file as back up then make some more versions that are for dvds and stuff.

DV is DV... ain't going to get any better.

Set your queue to export DV/NTSC and you'll be fine.

Not quite, when you edit in a NLE and add any color correction or anything other then a straight edit, the footage must Re-Compressed in DV, so detail is lost. For absolute highest quality the nle should be used as your offline edit. Then this edit and all effects should be done in AE with the unmodified original files, with the final edit being exported to a lossless compression format, most likely an image sequence or Quicktime Animation. This becomes the edited master which any version (DVD, web, flash, DV, uprezzed HD) can be made off of at maximum quality. Check out Stu Maschwitz's DV Rebel Guide for more detail and explanation.

I always export it as uncompressed before taking it into AE. Then take it back into FCP as uncompressed also. I like to be sure that its not getting re copressed and the extra quality you can apply in AE is great

hey huck... i know you're probably trying to find the best and CHEAPEST way to do this, but check out a program called automatic duck, it'll let you have an offline edit to color correct, etc in after effects and then you will only have one run of compression, when you render from after effects. if i can't explain it very well, check it out:

sorry if you're already aware... just throwin' it out there.

Quicktime in the ANIMATION codec.
I found this to be the best for DV footage.
Its preserves as much of the data as possible. Only problem is the files may be a little larger then they where.

Export Quicktime Photo JPEG. 100% if you're so worried about quality, but I find 95% holds up very freaking well.
