Panasonic BT-LH80W SDI vs Component

Any opinion on the difference between the quality on this monitor with the optional SDI vs Component inputs.
I'm feeling like the difference isn't worth the 650.00 price add-on.

Your opinions are appreciated.

I also have a 1700 Pana HD. The BT-LH80W is for in the field.

Thanks,

Ed Waters

Just bought one (finally!), and I got the HD-SDI upgrade for use with the Red. For an HVX200 or HPX500, if that's all you're using it for, skip the extra $650. But if you're dealing with an HD-SDI-only product or need HD-SDI loop-through, you'll need that option board.

Hi Ed you can skip the SDI using the 500, you wont see any marked difference.

Barry, you got a Red? do you have it yet?

I got the SDI option because I also use it for my Varicam, and even with the HPX it's just easier to have a single BNC cable going up to the monitor nice and neat with a right angle connector on each end. The less cables you have flopping around the better and more professional you will look.

Hi Guys
do you know or anyone knows if the BT-LH1700W could show the wave form from RGB inputs YPbPr?, or is it just composite? or SDI only?
many thanks

The Wavform monitor works in all modes.

ok, thanks, but look whats OM said:"*2 This screen is not displayed when"RGB COMP." is selected in the "INPUT SELECT" menu." Did anyone have tryed the wave form via Component RGB with 3 BNC conectors?

I have, I received a monitor without SDI when it was ordered with it. So I used the component to BNC. Waveform works. On a HPX you get nothing over using this v SDI out, except only one connection to plug into the monitor.

Yes, but that one BNC connection is 1,000,000,000,000,000 times better than the stupid analog connector! I bought the SDI upgrade for my BT-LH80, love it to DEATH. Best monitor on the market.

I debated about the whole sdi thing, but then I went out and bought the upgrade and love it. I like the one cable BNC connection. I love that variable sized cables can work on it instead of just the stock panny component cable.

Two weeks ago we rented a phantom and that sdi connection meant we didn't need to rent a different monitor.

I gritted my teeth ($625 for an HD-SDI upgrade?) but I bought it anyway and yeah, I flat-out love it. Soooooooooo much better than the goofy component cable. Plus it'll work with the Red or, well, just about any camera on the market now. It's a great thing, the monitor should come standard with it, but yes, highly recommended!
