What are you looking forward to seeing this year at NAB?

Hey All, anybody have any things they are specifically looking to see at NAB this year? The first place I am stopping is the Panasonic Booth....

I think this is going to be a big year for cameras.

Think of all the time we will have this year with no Apple or Avid.

I hope, I'm saving for a camera so I want to know which will be the new generation of cameras (if there is new generation), so that I can buy something next year.

I have noticed that some big vendors are pulling out of NAB. Besides AVID and Apple, has anyone heard of any other big vendors pulling out, for instance is Sony planning a big presence? I am thinking of going to NAB this year. I have not been since 2005 so I wonder if it is still a fun place to go for those of us with one camera and lots of ambition!

Alright, nice to see everyone finally posting in this forum. Just because 2 companies pulled out (albiet big companies), I don't think it's going to affect the show that much. There will still be hundreds of large vendors there. I'm sure that Sony will have a large presence there as they will probably showcase the newer lines on the XDCAM with it's huge popularity.

The strange thing is that I have not heard a lot of buzz about many new products coming, so that either means that they're not coming or they are just doing a better job of keeping them under wraps.

I'm actually looking forward to Nnovia releasing DVCPRO HD support for their recorders - I think once they do that, they are going to be huge as they fit much better into the streamlined look and functionality of professional systems.

I'm also going to go talk to the Sony Software guys and let them know that we may be jumping ship to another NLE because they still refuse to support DVCPRO HD. Raylight is ok, but I want true support real time without needing 3rd party software.

I love NAB. Even if some vendors are missing, the people you get to network with are awesome.

I'll be at the Panasonic booth for sure. I want to see what my next camera will be. :)
I'll also be spending a lot of time at the NewTek booth.
Their NLE, SpeedEDIT, handles our beloved .mxf files and makes editing fun again!!!
We just got their TriCaster as well and it opens up a whole new world of Revenue for our business. Easy multi-camera productions AND money.
They are a very non-conventional and fun company to hang out with.
Sorry if I sound like I pimp them often, it's just that they are so under-recognized and make such great production tools. Can you tell I am passionate about production tools? :2vrolijk_08:
Hope to see some of you guys at their booth since most of you had your date pull out on you.

Yeh, NAB is still a great place to hang out. and hey, it's in VEGAS BABY! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG) See ya there!

Yeah, I *love* Vegas software but that part's extremely irritating and worse, it's indicative of a new mindset that's not oriented towards the user. I've bought or demo'ed every major NLE on the market; I think the one that's going to "stick" is Premiere Pro CS3 or EDIUS. EDIUS is fantastic with P2, PPCS3 is almost as good but it also includes After Effects and PhotoShop in the suite and integrates together; I think either is excellent for P2 work. Plus CS3 works with the Blackmagic Intensity Pro card, which is pretty cool.

So, it may be time to A friend of mine says that Vegas stands for "Virtually Everyone's Going Away, Sony." Too bad, because it's a great editor.

Oh, and a bunch of Panasonic press releases just hit. The "new DVX" is called the HMC150; it looks like they've taken an HVX and made it record to SD cards instead of P2 cards. One single 32GB SD card can hold up to 12 hours of footage! Of course, it's AVC-HD instead of DVCPRO-HD, but for those who are comfortable with HDV or XDCAM then they should be thrilled with AVC-HD. No mention of variable frame rates but it does 1080i, 1080p and 720p and it's NTSC/PAL switchable too.

Also they've updated the 17" monitor, adding pixel-to-pixel monitoring and a vectorscope in addition to the waveform monitor.

And, they announced the 64GB P2 card, which should become available "in the fall."

Barry,

I hear ya about PremierPro and Edius. Premier Pro has never been as responsive as Edius to me. I like Premier because all the plugins you can get and the interface is so familiar and the connectivity with all the Adobe Suite.

But Edius is so damn responsive and clean. Unfortunately, I find Edius lacks in options when you want to do sophisticated edits. I hate that you cannot undo things while inside the filter menus, or their keyframes only work on certain effects. 12 bit would be nice also. Better color correcting, and better audio.

I really hope Edius gets an overhaul on their software (yes even more so than in 4.5) and they start getting serious about taking on the big players.

HMC150... why the hefty price tag?

But as far as a camera for work goes, this is what I've been waiting for....

Backup solutions. If there isn't anything else compelling I'm getting the Quantum DLT600a. Not sexy but GREATLY needed.

Scarlet, of course.

Jib arms...this will be the year I finally get one...we'll see if I can get any more info on the ones I like.

AE plugins/FcPro plugins

I'm sure this list will be 5 times bigger by the time I get there.

I'm going early for the DP conference...anyone else?

three things...

1. Scarlet
2. then also, there's a new camera from Red I want to see
3. and then this new 2K pocket pro camera I heard about too

but that's it. just those three.

Unfortunately, I won't be there, but I'm with Zak on this one - Scarlet's probably the only thing I want to see from NAB. The "new DVX" could be interesting, but I'm fine with my XH-A1 for a while. The Scarlet could be a whole different game and that's why I'm looking forward to it.

1. Scarlet
2. Panasonic (Mildly interested in the 150, but Panasonic has said its not the replacement for the HVX, but has NOT said there won't be a replacement... thats interesting)
3. Adobe (with Avid and Apple away maybe its time to release their super secret Adobe Master Suite CS4 or (CS64)... how far off could 64 bit software be? Could you imagine if the suite was fully 64 bit, supporting as many cores as you could throw at as well as 128 gigs of RAM... that would be a historic upgrade)
