External monitor ideas

The question remain. How do you mount that thingy and how do you power it? It consumes 5 Volt not 7.2 like a HVX battery would deliver. This thingy means so much tweaking until it finally works as an onboard monitor that you easily can spend the extra dollar and buy a decent monitor that works out of the box.

But if you guys only want to go as cheap as possible, this really is an opportunity.:undecided

For me it does. But if it's really really really critical I'll bring along my secret weapon: The "Focus Assist"

Recently I bought a JVC DT-V17L2D 17" Monitor for on set viewing and client teasing. That also helps but can't be mounted on the camera of course.

I am happy with my LCD-703 HD. Bottom line: It does the job (for me)

I also have Totevision 703. I would like to know how you connect to another monitor while the RGB out from HVX's Component is going to the monitor.
I tried to hook RCA to another monitor while the component still out to the Totevision monitor but no avail. The component out will goes off right away.

Do you use a Daisychain for the component out to connect to two monitors?

Totevision is great for focusing but not to adjust the color. It seems that it lacks the redness in the standard setting.

I don't have time to read through this whole thread can someone tell me if the cowon A3 is off the table for sure? 400 bucks would be awesome, if it's got ins I'll buy one to test it for everyone.

I just use my HPX500

From there I use the component out to the totevision and the hd-sdi to the jvc.
But with only the HVX I have yet to try.

It's not off the table yet. There's a guy on DVInfo.net who has the A2 Cowan and he's going to try it.

Basically the connection is going to be to take a feed from the camera using a BNC cable, connected to a BNC-RCA coupler and then connect it to a 3.5mm A/V cable, like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com/3-5mm-to-RCA-A-...anon-Sony_W0QQitemZ180213492646QQcmdZViewItem

Kinda convoluted but it sounds like it might work.

i just caught up on this thread, but i'm a little confused. lot's of people - lot's of different 'wants' and 'needs'

disjecta - you're looking for an affordable on-cam monitor for a DVX, right? i know through the thread that some HVX talk has been thrown in.

basically, are you looking at the Cowan for on-cam assist on light and framing?

i ask because i'm looking for the best overall on-cam HVX solution - so i don't think that the cowan would work for me, i really want it for focus assist.

it looks like the totevision might... as far as an under 1k on-cam monitor solution that allows for focus assist, this is the best i've seen (I think...)

am i missing something?

I want a cheap, on-camera monitor that I can flip and use for handheld purposes. That's why I want to keep it as small as possible. Something about the same quality at the LCD would work great. I already have a 7" Marshall HD monitor but it's too big and cumbersome to do handheld...

Hi everyone,

Good tread, I am looking for something exactly the same as disjecta...and cowon A3 seems the way to go...if someone has already tested how good the composite in performs please report....I am looking forward to buying one of these little puppies....and if 16:9 displayse correctly either through composite of s-video this would be the way to go for me.... because on my shooting I need something light, and something that would help directors see the composition and the framing of my shoots...

I don't need 7" size, I would rather go down to even 4" if I had to. I would love to find something that approaches the quality of the LCD. Anyone know of some good quality smaller monitors?

Don't think THIS has been posted here, found it on hv20 forum just then.
But at $54.95 with a 3.5" screen, although it does 'stretch' live camera feed, very small and compact, easy to flip upside down, etc... Here it is at walmart BUT triple the price.

ps: A user said (here - see page prior for claim) it does stretch video from the camera when 'live', BUT when playing recorded video (from camera) it is letterboxed, so could be useful for portable showreel convenience.

i'll be heading to the city with some time to kill tomorrow night (friday) so i'll see if i can inquire about the Cowan here in Japan. Its gotta be in some of the major electronic stores here, they have everything else.
