Your Very First Movie

I'm embarrassed to show this to anyone, but here goes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHBm1tVsfC0

It's really, really terrible. But, if anyone really wants to see a bunch of 12 year olds play pretend slasher movie while trying to be funny, then it's right there for public consumption. It was shot on June 3, 2000.

Ha ha ha. Well, I had to ask for proof of existance, didn't I? You know back in 2000, it was quite a leap to insert a choreographed dance sequence into a horror movie, but i think you pulled it off quite nicely. (and actually one of the best edits where the kids round the corner)

Bravo.

well i want to make a short asap but i need help.....
any advice would be great on how to tackle a short n a music video?

thank u

keep up the good work

Hahahahahha... great thread.

My first movie... was unfinished. It was called "Pyromania" and starred my best friend at the time, at the age of 12, playing a pyrotechnician who just lost his job. Funny -- freelancers, how they can't find more work, right?

Either way, he lost his job, then his wife and kids... so he decided to venture into the capitalistic venture of terrorism, making explosives.

Far fetched for a 12 year old kid. When I was 14, I successfully finished a horror film about a group of middle school kids who were playing flashlight tag when a neighborhood killer offs all of them. It's called "Ghost in the Graveyard", and has one of the most unrealistic sequences in the history of cinema in it: a scrawny 13 year old kid lifts a 200lb man over his head and throws him off of a balcony, killing him upon impact.

Strong kid. Great cheesy special effect though; we made a dummy.

Edit: As for you nerds out there, on Pyromania I used an old JVC VHS-C camcorder, and for Ghost in the Graveyard, I dabbled for the first time in cutting edge technology and had my dad purchase a Sony Hi-8. Woo, in-camera editing!

Sod it,

I found it a few days ago and tried to add more of a beginning. But I couldnt edit much of the original file, plus the quality was low enough as it was yet the file size high. Aswell as my codec problem, ignore the first 30 seconds... and preferablyy the last 1min 30sec :S

It's really, not meant to be posted on a actual filmmaking forum like this. So it's rude and probably offensive. I'm not sure. Made it a few years ago, back when I first got interested in film and new nothing.

Mate from college did the editing. Was my job to write a script we didnt end up using, hold the camera 2/3 the time [since i was the only one who could work out how to use it] & direct the laptop / dance scene. Guy in green was the one in charge for the most part.

Theres a strange sense of love for your first film isn't there? No matter how crap it is.. you still feel love for it. Or is someone gonna tell me thats just me to make me look like a prat. =[

Plot:

Some bomb goes off, a man gets interigatted, but he's innocent. He gets the good cop / bad plot routine by a officecr with a split personality disorder.

Actual Plot After Filming:

An alien cop interviews someone.

Our actor buggered off home, so we filmed someone else as the main character then apparently 'morphed' him into another one.

Equiptment:

Cannon XL1

- Cringes -

P.S, It got random, after we were told we were 5 minutes short of film footage before we made the target of a 10 minute sitcom. Not that its a sitcom.

P.S.S, Don't watch past 10:48.

P.S.O.S, I personally love it, growed on me more i watched it.

hmm..an interesting thread idea indeed.

I don't really advertise this too much.. but the first narrative film I did was was a film called 'Vivian'.

I had never even used the camera I was working with...nor had I directed actors... it was interesting coming up with a 14 page document of 'shots' ... one might refer to that as a shot list... ;)

anyways... I don't like it... others seem to like it more than me... but they are too nice to say it is ****...

look at it here if you like:
http://www.dreamsoftfilms.com/films/vivian.html

it is actually a film I want to turn into a feature film. It has a good core story... but this is just poorly executed on my part.

peas.

aside: btw this was done when I was 19.

About 3 years ago I picked up a video camera for the first time.

My Nephew had this cool Michael Myers mask and we decide to shoot a quick movie. The camera we were using had a nice "edit" feature that allowed transitions and deletions of previous scenes. You couldn't go back after shooting the next one though.

I filmed my "tall" teenage Nephew standing across the street for the opener... he had the mask and blue coveralls on. It was also very close to Halloween. The next shot was me shooting a Michael Myers first person POV approaching the house and unlocking the gate. Then looking into a basement window...

Next shot... we see Michael in the basement. Then back to First person POV... going upstairs for a knife. I could tell you the entire thing in complete detail it is still that vivid in my mind.

You never forget your first. :)

Flight 208, My First Movie

Flight 208, My First Movie

Back in 2005 I got a Canon Optura Xi and then got some friends together in June of 2006 and made "Flight 208". It was my first real attempt at making a film. It actually became quite popular around my hometown and a few thousand people watched it. It was in a small film festival in New York and had two articles written about it.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Jxk85f9RK-k

The movie was made at Mahoney State Park in Nebraska over a period of two days. There was then an additonal day of filming at Two Rivers State Park for the water scenes. Three months later we filmed the second part in Valley, Nebraska.

It was originally intended to be a podcast, but I later decided to combine them, and thus we had to film the second part.

My mom and a friend's mom filmed almost all of the movie at my direction. I acted in the movie, and it was the last time that I did. Since then, I have only done cameo appearances with the exception of our un-released test-films.

Overall, it was a great experience that got me started in filmmaking.

Collaborated with a friend in college some working on a movie for my video production class. He had most of it laid out because it was already a work in progress. But, it was enough to light a fire under me.

Wow, some of these first films are amazing! I made my first film when I was about 6, it was called "The Request" (I don't know why), it was going to be a 4 hour epic but ended up being about 12 min. I starred with my aunt, uncle, grandfather, and babysitter supporting, my other aunt worked the camera.

The film starts out on a construction site where we, the workers, are carrying out our duties like any other day. All of a sudden aliens invade, (my Grandfather played the head alien)! They dropped a Dunkin' Donuts on my uncle (you never actually the store flying just my uncle's mangled remains. Anyway after that the plot descends into chaos and I can't really remember what happens.

My grandparents still have that VHS somewhere.

I wish I had a copy of the unfinished short I did when I was 10 or so. I shot it on my parents vhs camera. It was high tech back then. You carried the tape deck on a strap, and the camera was separate. It was called Doubles Troubles, starring my sister Torey, My cousin Trinity, and myself playing the voice of their mom. We also made a bubble gum commercial, and something else. The editing was done from one VCR to another. I gave up on the project realizing it was much harder than I thought. ALTHOUGH, I did my first special effect making it look like my sister was falling out of a tree by cutting creatively. If by some miracle it shows up in my parents closet full of family vhs tapes, and is recoverable, it will go in a glass case after being transferred to dvd and several copies made!

My very first video was shot on a snow-day in high school. My friend had an old VHS camcorder (the kind that's like a VCR with a telescope attached to it). It had to be plugged in, so we ran several 60 foot drop cables from inside his house to the woods behind it. It was pretty much just a stupid 3 minute chase sequence with lots of inside jokes. I did all the editing between two VCRs and dubbed a song over by plugging in my CD player at the right time.

We also tried to film an entire movie backwards. Not like Memento, but actually moving backwards. The bad part is, we tried to think up the story as we went along--in reverse.

My first movie was made in 1976. I was a kid in University. It was 16mm science fiction short called Mirrored Eclipse. We used an Auricon Camera. Recorded sync sound to a nagra with the actors wearing these massive lav mics under their costumes. We knew nothing but everyone was keen. We all got our inspiration from 2001 and Silent Running.

We shot 7252 and 7242 reversal stock. The 7242 was a faster stock and more condusive to low light interiors which we used for the shots on the bridge of the starship. We built the interior in my friend's basement.

Here's a few photos from that set.

My first "filM" was a music video I shot on..(get ready) a Fisher Price PXL2000! if you remember this you are in your 30's. It shot B&W video on a cassette tape! A CASSETTE TAPE. I shot a lipsynched Kool Moe Dee video. Oh man, I wish i could find that thing.

I popped my cherry shooting B&W to Hi8 Videotape, when I was about 10 or 11 years old - "Indiana Will and the Walk Around the Block"... good times. And Craig those stills look fantastic, I wish I could've got the guys I studied with motivated enough to put something that cool together.
