GOOD|SAM - a minimalist film by hunter richards and anthony pierce

So I'm not sure how someone couldn't get what the film was about. It was an ideal kicker at the end. A twist, but in a totally realistic and heatfelt way. Great job on making it take place in the real world. I could see myself passing this kid on the streets of any major city. I loved the acting and the locations you shot in (esp. the shot with the semi full of cars going by in the background). You're a filmmaker with talent.

Thanks, Anthony called him on the radio "Ok, drive by now!". Portland was a little iffy about us shutting down MLK ave. to make this film, but after a little under the table payments... and it wasnt easy getting 50 extras to drive cars either... But the results were totally worth it.

Thanks for the feedback on the film Bryce. And as you can tell I am a bad lier, we just got lucky with the "Real world".

Speaking of filming sans permits...anyone have any issues with that? We made a clean sweep, just after the can return scene, a security guard came up to see what we were doing...too bad we all ready left the location!

I thought this was great.

I loved the kid and the story was wonderful. It had a real charm to it. The pacing felt right on. The scene in the pawn shop made me smile and the ending was perfect.

Very well done.

I glad you got that light humor at the pawn shop. I wish we had a sound unit that day to make it easier to hear the audio. Thanks.

Hunter

Considering the pawn shop was open the day we shot, I think you did a great job cleaning up the audio. TV’s, coke machine, costumers. You said “this isn’t going to sound good at all” But you made it work.

I really enjoyed your film. Very sweet story, well told. Cinematography very well done, for the most part. Some of your shots were amazing.

The boy did a great job. The ending was perfect, a real surprise, and tied up a lot of loose ends for me in one shot. I mentioned on another thread how important I think the last shot of a movie is... last impressions and all that.

My only critique, and this is purely a personal opinion, the music didn't work for me.

Look forward to more films from you.

Niceeeee! I liked the film and thought the camera work really shone. I liked the dolly shots in the Bedroom and the final dolly to the mailbox, but it was all very well done. The story worked for me. The only nit was the audio inside the house with the woman. Still, a well crafted story! Thanks!

Omg...I watched this the first time, and I thought it was well done, but I didn't catch the ending. (I was talking to people on the computer and I was glancing back and forth)

So I decided to watch it again, and give you some critiquez/compliments.

Kegan told me to watch this, cause he said the story was amazing. After me watching it the first time, I thought meh, it was ok. (This was due to me talking to people and watching the film at the same time)

Just watched it agian, and WOW! I get it! Amazing!

This was my favorite story in the fest, HANDS FRIGGIN DOWN!

The concept, and everything was great man, you did a good job on that.

For the criticism:

The boy did a wonderful job. The store clerks weren't the greatest, and his brother (foster friend) wasn't the best either. The "mom" did an excellent job in my opinion.

I don't know if the store scene worked for me. The talking to the guy, and us not being able to see his face just kinda bugged me. But the second talk, (when Sam sells the item) went well.

Locations, locations, locations. These are very crucial and I'm still learning this. But hey, you absolutely NAILED locations. They rocked!

Your camera work was great. Over all, the cinematography worked awesome for the film.

My last little nit, was the audio. I know, that you know by now it was weak in some parts, so I'm going to stop here with the audio, instead of you re-reading the audio critique :)

Hunter and Anthony,

You did a truly amazing job on this piece, and I would definitely watch more of your films in a second. If you could and wouldn't mind taking some time, just to PM me the details on the story (who wrote it, how long it took, etc, etc)

Thanks for showing off a great, true hearted film. It made me get goosebumps the second time I watched it, paying attention to the end

Robbie.

It really does make huge difference when you watch this film twice with out distractions! I hope more people do the same. We put a lot of small quirks in there.

Thanks.

Well if you really wanted to know you should have been there!

No, it looked good. I wonder how many people on this site send their films to other festivals? Generally I won’t rip on filmmakers work, but there where some real stinkers in the short film competition.

I can see somebody now misunderstanding what you said. We sent the film to a local film festival and it showed yesterday. I heard some of the films were quite raunchy...like pedophile stuff. I am glad I wasn't there!

HUNTrise! Its Jared!!
