Wonder what the next fest will be...

Hero, Villain, Victim

Here are the rules:

1. must have an identifyable hero, villain, and victim...can have turns and twists to keep us guessing, or straight up just like a Dudley Do-right cartoon. "Subtle" has no place in a hero/villain/victim flick; however, "gray" is ok.

2. must have someone facing a certain fate if they are not rescued. Tied up on railroad tracks (careful here), in front of a canon, or next to TNT with lit fuse. It could also be something else entirely, like saving the mortgage on the farm, or saving a reputation,etc...just as long as they need to be rescued/saved from the Villain. Notice that it does not require the rescue to be successful.

3. must contain a famous corny line from a movie or TV show (appropriately credited) and the actor saying the line must look into the camera to say it. example: "hasta la vista, baby" etc.

4. a lesson in the end is required...either stated or somehow obvious. Example: "it just goes to show you...blah blah blah."

Based on how well the LoveFest went, I wonder if we could do another that is theme or subject instead of genre?

S'what a lot of us are voting for! Hopin' to have a theme to adhere to instead of a genre myself. Want to enter... if I could just settle on a not-so-big idea.

it's gotta be a theme. please. anyone can implement the noir, action or sci-fi genres regardless of subject matter. we had noir in WTHL and we had sci-fi in CLARA. i dig that kind of variety.

I agree.

I wish I could have entered this fest. During the holidays and the past month I was bombarded with paying work. Its hard to say no when the bucks are rolling in. I will make a concerted effort to enter the next fest.

these are the two themes (aside from Love) that most interest me...

Sex Fest -- explore the funny, serious, sensual, intellectual and spiritual dimension of human sexuality. kept at an R rating of course.

Life/Death Fest -- birth, aging, obsolescence, mortality and death

What about a more mundane theme like family or career, but with a required scene? Every short has to have a person getting fired. Or a wife leaving her husband.

OR

What about a fest as an homage to a great filmmaker? Hitchcock fest? Required elements/rules could be loose or rigid - black and white? no handheld camerawork, plot could/should employ the use of a macguffin, etc.

Read through a lot of the posts and have some comments of my own:

1) I love NoirFest. I think that if people really tried to make it their own, we wouldn't have to deal with too many similar entries.
2) The whole TrailerFest deal just doesn't appeal to me. I am looking forward to doing more of a film, but this is probably because I haven't entered the last two fests and am dying to hit the camera.
3) I agree that Themes are better than specific Genres, generally, as it provides a wider spectrum of possible plot lines. Anything would work: Betrayal, Anger, etc...
4) Personally not ready for a Sci-Fest. I am in the mood for a more dramatic film, although if we do a Theme, people could do their Sci-Fi and I could do my Drama.
5) Comedy would be a hoot.

Also, here are a couple ideas I remember from the last time we did a "Next Fest" Thread:

1) PoeFest - Would be lots of fun (although people must remember he wrote more stories than The Tell Tale Heart)
2) HeistFest - Exciting!

I would love to do something involving Politics, but agree that would be too much of an igniter of heated debate (which I love on a persoanl level, but is not right for DVXUser).

So, there are my thoughts. The last time I worked on a Fest was AdFest, so I am itching to start work on another. Currently I am writing for a project for mb72378, but by the time the next Fest starts I should have lots of time to devote to it. I'm liking all the ideas, people, keep them coming!

KillFest would be cool. I also thought of some more Theme-based ones: GuiltFest, RegretFest and FearFest. I am really looking forward to the next Fest, hoping I'll be able to get in on it.
