i've watched some of the phillip bloom footage and am mighty impressed. i love his use of 35mm adapters. unfortunately, i'm more in a run & gun mode.

any low light/no light run&gun documentary footage from ex1?

i'm especially looking for interior shots.

thanks in advance

be well

rob

go to my blog and look at the entry rolling shutter. high speed shutter, shooting adaptor free. scroll down to second video. all done available light, most of it handheld.

philip...

philip,

could you post the actual video footage of the image you posted depicting the skewed rolling shutter frame in your blog post: "rolling shutter. high speed shutter, shooting adaptor free"?

i've seen lots of stills like the freeze frame you posted, but no video. i checked out the ex-1 at abel in LA and could not get the camera to skew the image.

i want to buy an ex-1 early next week but i do A LOT of VIOLENT run and gun. lots of hunting shows while riding in the back of pick-up trucks and sprinting across fields. i want to make sure i'm not about to create a big problem for myself.:Drogar-Mark-10(DBG)

you have to REALLY whip it around, with lots of shutter in.

You won't have any problems at all. Look at how much I whipped the camera around in those shots and no problems.

Under those conditions, you will run into rolling shutter issues.
If you plan on doing "VIOLENT" dizzy running around with the camera, I'd go with an HVX200 or Canon A1.

when you SAY violent camera work, can you let us in on what you mean?

are you like, attaching the camera to your shoulder (IE. predator shoulder canon) and wrestling dogs ? If so, please post footage !!

No.

No.

I plan on fighting off dinosaurs and alligators with it.
I guess I don't really need a nice camera so much as
a good, solid piece of metal I can use as a weapon.
Maybe I could strap a 3 1/4" deck to a shovel?

As it stands, I will be shooting while riding in the back of pickup truck, off road.
I also plan on running on foot with it mounted to a fig rig or dv rig pro.

I was going to opt for another HVX (I've shot with one before) but I really like the low light qualities of the EX1. Often, we end up shooting with available light around dusk/ early evening.

Does anyone know a link to actual video footage of the rolling shutter acting up due to motion? I've already seen a lot of strobe light footage.

It'd be nice to see the ungraded footage if possible Philip :)

i dont do naked...it shows my shortcomings!

but look at the food p**** entry, that is ungraded. not a test of fast movement though.

It'd be good to just see a small amount just to see how the color space looks naked. That's one thing I like about the HVX, it may not be full 4:2:2 due to the limited resolution but it reproduces colors, even in ungraded footage, like no other at the price point.

I wish you could record to the SxS cards at 4:2:2 with the EX1. That would have sealed the deal.

Everytime I look at that video I ask the question why do I live in Arizona.
Man, that's on beautiful opening shot. I'd be shooting all day long in that area!
