One line of damaged pixel when shooting 1080pa

Hi all,

Ive acquired my HVX200 a year ago, and had shot different stuff on it (100 hours). I recently realized that the 1080 footage I shot using my camera has a horizontal line of damaged pixel stretching from near the top left hand corner to some point past the center of the image. It appear in all the 1080 footage I saw. It is evident in final cut pro, but could not be seen in projectors as the image is lightly cropped off at the sides.

This line of damaged pixels does not appear on 720 and SD footages. I wanted to know whether anyone else had this issue before, and whether it is a software or hardware problem, as well as how I should proceed. Should I send the camera to Panasonic or Spec com for servicing?

All advice is appreciated. Thank you,
Jiekai

I would consider sending it in to Panasonic for service, yes. It's not likely that this is something you can fix yourself.

You should post a screenshot if you can, though.

I have experienced the same thing with my HVX200 in 108024pa mode. So have other people.

There have been a couple of threads started here at DVXuser. Nothing has happened so far.

Keep your fingers crossed...

I had recently called Panasonic about this issue. Their tech person replied, saying that it is a final cut pro issue. Which I really do not think so, I thought its more of the CCD. What you guys think?

If it were a sensor issue it would be present in all clips since 720p and 480i is a downscaled 1080 image. I use FCP and have the same issue in 24pA in both 1080 and 480 formats. nothing in 720 or any other frame rate in 1080 or 480, only 24pA. I am going to try and download the 24pA clips on another mac running FCP to see if the problem persists. I'll let you know the results.

Nope, it's not an NLE issue.

I think I was the first to bring this to Panasonic's attention. You can hook your camera directly to a 1080i television and you will see the pink line pulse at the top of the screen. When you do a frame for frame inspection it seems like it is in the throw away frame, but somehow it makes it past the pulldown removal. I use DV Rack to Avid.

I sent my camera to Panasonic in NJ and they verifyed the problem on my camera as well as a few others they had on hand. They (Paco and Hector) have called the engineers in Japan several times but have got no reply. They sent my camera back to me as is. At this point I'm not a happy camper.

Is this a problem that crops up after the camera has been used for a while or do you think it was there all along?

Bob I've read your thread and I have the exact same problem as you.

Guess we can only hope that panny will get back to us soon, certainly SOON. cos my 1 year warranty will be up by April. T.T

My warrenty is already up. The whole reason I bought the HVX and the various support equipment was to shoot a feature this summer. I really don't care about the warrenty, I'll pay for the repair (although it would seem to be a defective component), I just want it diagnosed and fixed.

I dowloaded the p2 file from your previous post and imported it into Premiere cs3 (windows,xp) and couldn't find any line or defect...I extracted a tiff file and looked at it very closely for quite a while...cant see a problem. What and where was the defect the upload was supposed to show?

confirmed on FCP v6.01 w QT 7.2
the footage was captured via Firewire using HD Monitor Pro
it happens every 4th frame

Can anybody explain to me why the pull-down removed clip is 4 frames shorter than the original 108024pa?

might this have anything to do with glitching on every 4th frame after P/D removal?

Thanks

This glitch has just come to my attention on two HVX-200's that were bought about a year apart. Has anyone found the cause /solution?

Best regards,
