Fellow Filmmakers,

Over the years, I’ve observed the incredible community spirit that surrounds these fests, and i’ve longed to be a part of it. The stories, the friendships, the ribbing and the critical feedback are what makes this fest so unique. It’s a valuable community experience for an indie filmmaker, and like nothing else i’ve ever seen.

With the announcement of LoveFest, I had to be a part of it. Production on “Heart of Now” just wrapped, so I had little reason not to. A minute hadn't gone by before I started the very first thread announcing a LoveFest entry – my DVXFest debut: “UNITITLED - a film by Sabi”.

In the beginning, I drew upon existing friendships forged during “Heart of Now” – Marion, John, Matt Garrett and “my babycakes”, Jamie. We came together to make something from nothing and it’s a 9 minute piece we are all very proud of – charming little flaws included. But what happened next, was unexpected. In sharing the stories from the set and the screenshots with other filmmakers, I found myself a part of that community experience I had admired from a distance for far too long.

I remember batting a few PM’s back and forth with Luis Caffesse, encouraging him to get involved. At the time, Matt Garrett was looking for a story to set in a record store and I suggested he submit a story idea. i’m not taking credit for getting the ball rolling, I’m just very happy to see Luis is now in this with a fully produced entry of his own. Recently, I had a late night phone call with Jack Daniel Stanley. It was a pleasure chatting it up with him and I hope our paths cross a number of times down the road. It was a surprise when Mark Harris contacted me for feedback on another project he’s developing. That he thought enough of me to ask, meant something to me. And then there was that down-to-the-wire phone call from Tim Hyten where we went over options for export settings. My only regret is that we don't have a J.R. Hudson Reel this time around. That being said, none of these relationships would have been formed if there wasn't a forum for me to throw my hat into the ring, without even a nugget of an idea.

I have yet to meet any of these people in person, and I hope one day to remedy that. And the potential for new friendships and working relationships would not exist if it weren't for this DVXFest. So it is with immeasurable gratitude that I offer my thanks to all the people working behind the scenes of LoveFest and each of the filmmakers putting their ideas out there for the world to admire.

Thank you, you beautiful f*cking bastards...

Zak

for anyone who plans on viewing my entry tonight, I have added this new synopsis...

SYNOPSIS:

I F*CKING HATE YOU is a raw, whimsical glimpse into a young man's ill-conceived scheme to redeem himself in the eyes of his ex-girlfriend. Ron (John T. Woods) lures Carol (Marion Kerr) back to his apartment under the pretense that he is going to return her favorite mug. But when it seems that this will be their last moment together, Ron attempts to strike a chord with her in the only way he knows how.

Looking forward to it!

Cheers,

I agree with your sentiments, Zak. This is definitely a great place with great people. Everyone's game improves as the bar keeps getting raised over the years. There's nothing like it.

I enjoyed your BTS. Really good insight into the origins of your film. Not to mention, you have a cool workstation setup.

Couldn't agree with your post more, Zak.
And I look forward to the day you can buy me a drink.
:)

By the way - lest anyone get confused by Zak's post - I did not wind up helping Matty with his story at all....
I tried coming up with something for him, but came up bone dry in the idea department.

Hey Zak - how about sharing some raw grabs from the shoot?
I'm really digging the look you've got going - and I'm curious what you started with.

okay, Luis... this one's just for you because you rock so f*cking hard. I wasn't too keen on showing the "before", but here is a sample.... it will toggle back and forth every 6 seconds...

looks great. you're a pro zak. i wish i would've had more time (any time for that matter) to do cc for our entry.

Awesome - thanks.

We can save the techy CC discussions until after viewing starts.
Hopefully they'll be more talk of story than any of that stuff anyhow - you've just got such an extreme look going on, I was really curious to see how much of that you got in camera and how much was post.

Thanks for sharing that - looking forward to the fest kickin off soon!
:)

yeah, it's a great look. I also want to do an entire film with that same grit. I loved the ones in the BTS video for Matty's film as well.
