Premiere crashing because of MOUSE

this happened to me a few times, but today i figured out exactly how to crash my system.

It seems if i right click something, and then left click too quickly or right click again so 3 rapid clicks on the mouse, premiere will automatically shutdown...no error message or anything.....the project just goes to an empty premiere window with no timeline, no project etc. I have to reboot everytime it happens and it's very frustrating as premiere always seems to be.

is it premiere, windows xp or a combination ??

first thing to try is another mouse. everyone nowadays should have at least an extra mouse hanging around. Either way (ps2 or usb) reboot to make sure it clears out memory..

Are you using XP SP2?

I've experienced that too with some versions of premiere. (Pro 1.5 I think at least)

It only appears to be the interface windows dissapearing. The project itself is still open. [ctrl] + normally still works to Save, as does clicking "File" and then "Save".

So normally you can still save your project just fine at this stage. Before taking a break from editing to reboot. :kali:

I have xp, with sp2. The thing is, is i can't even right click anything, as soon as i Do .....CRASH!

I'll try the mouse swap thing...but i here it might have something to do with MS Intellipoint drivers....I checked my drivers but it just has some jibberish listed beside it some i'm unsure if i have them...

i personally use logitech on all my systems... you could always go to ms and get new drivers for the intellipoints.

The mouse swap will be the quickest way to figure out the problem.. just remember, don't use the same model mouse as the one giving you a problem.

I changed the mouses, both ps2 & usb and found this information on the driver. HID-compliant mouse 5.1.2600.0 I'm not quite sure what type of driver this is though??? Intellipoint??

if i uninstall intellipoint software....which includes a mouse driver...then my mouse won't work right?

Windows has built-in mouse drivers that'll allow your mouse to function as it should. You might lose some extra functionality--for instance, if there are some additional navigational buttons--but nothing that you'll really miss.

I had the same problem with 1.5. At first I thought it was the video card than the key boad. I did not think the mouse would be the problem. After all, I did no have a wheel on the mouse. Yet, I did not have full success with changing the first two. When I went into my mouse settings, I tried setting it to not expecting the mouse wheel. As mentioned, I did not have one on mine. Yet, I got worse results. Thus, I set it to expect to the wheel not auto as first set. Bingo! No more freeze!

It would freeze while working on a clients work; now, I can tackle with confidence. Thanks guys. This forum is great.

totally didn't follow that, could you be more specific?

Had Similer Problem With After Effects. Lose The Intellipoint Drivers, They Seem To Cause Issues With Adobe Stuff. You Will Lose The Abilty To Asign Different Functions To Mouse Buttons But It Will Work Without Crashing Premiere (hopefully). I Had Real Issues With Drop Down Menus Dissapearing In After Effects, I Thought It Was The Graphics Card And I Spent Ages Trying To Get It Tested, I Borrowed Another Card Off A Mate And I Found Out It Was Just The Same, I Was Going Nuts For About A Month Till I Realised It Was The Mouse. Here's A Usefull Tip, If You Get A Crash And Want To Know Whats Causing It Go To Control Panle And Then Administrative Tools, Then Event Veiwer. Check Out Some Of The Info In There, This Usualy Gives You An Idea Of What Is Going Wrong, Thats How I Finaly Tracked It Down. Sorry About The Caps After Effects Is Rendering.

Bro, you might have to disable a function of the mouse. I have a microsoft mouse with intellipoint drivers. Just disable that function of the mouse. ctrl/alt/del - go to processes, then delete that process - It worked for me.
