GOOD|SAM - a minimalist film by hunter richards and anthony pierce

Its really simple to me, because I took part of the process. But when I tested it on a few people who had no idea what the story was about. I got mixed responses, some got it and some needed some help. Do you think its better to spell it out for the audience or give them something to chew on?

DO NOT SPELL IT OUT. The reason I came to think of THE WIRE as the best TV show ever was because they assume the audience is smart, and not stupid. Let them chew, and if your film is compelling enough, people will come back to figure it out.

Well the thing is, its not really a puzzle kind of film. Truthfully its geared more towards the sensitive type (women). I'm sure you guys will get it. I just wanted to see what you guys thought because we plan on submitting this to a few festivals after lovefest, and you only get one chance for audience reaction (and their vote!)

What people are saying about the film (a few friends, family and co-workers anyways):

"Cute"

"Nice Music. It made me want to keep watching"

"Ya, I got it"

"What was that about?"

"Better than A/S/L" (age/sex/location is a feature film www.aslthemovie.com)

did you notice the new 2 camera challenge? (info is right under the poster) see the first page.

I'm looking forward to this one too. This really looks like it's going to be a very solid fest. So many entries look like people really brought it.

Im really looking forward to watching everyones entry. Honestly, I didnt watch any of the otherfests, this fest being my first, I cant wait see them!

Some of the sound and the acting of the kid bothered me a bit, but the ending was great. Really unexpected, and fit perfectly.

hunter, i'm curious if you made any changes after your "test screenings"? this really was a sweet story. I know you know the issues with your sound so i'm not going to belabor that. i would suggest taking another look at the pacing of certain scenes, exploring options, and asking yourself in every instance, how this is pushing things forward.

great little story. i assumed the woman from the beginning was his mother so the ending really worked as a reveal. well done.
