The brutalization of child naming continues...

all my children will have the middle name danger. just so they can say "danger is my middle name."

Yeah, I tried that. The wife did not approve. Still, my boy's name does sound good with "private eye" after it, which is all I really wanted:

Gideon Fox, Private Eye

Heck yeah.

I was watching one of those shows like COPS one evening and they were taking away a small boy who had been hurt. The paramedic asked the mother for the boys name and she said (writing how it was pronounced) "le-mahn-ghuh-loh". Then the paramedic asked her to spell it (and I'm not lying, 100% this is the truth):

"L - E - M - O - N - J - E - L - L - O"

The last name Fox lends itself to coolness. It pretty much goes with everything.

I know, right. Your first name could be Pissant. who cares itd still sound cool. "Whats your name?" "Me? Pissant Fox. Private Eye............here's my card."

Sure she didn't say G rather than J? Lemongello is a common-ish name. (Peter Lemongello springs to mind.)

Always wanted to have a character in a film: Peter Trax, Skip-Tracer.

Yes, I wax watching the show, she definitely pronounced it "gh" like giraffe. And, yes, it was his first name....poor kid.

Sounds like he might have had his name changed... But you never know. An aunt of mine used to own an embroidery store, where they embroidered art on shirts etc. A family from New Orleans came in to get some work done, bringing their very young son. My aunt asked his name, then asked the mother to spell it. Link here to the pronunciation and the spelling. And that's that God honest truth.

Company I used to work for had a customer whose last name was Gitrich. I always thought that was a made up name. Also had a customer whose corporate name was "My Franchise". Very original.

Back in the late 80's someone I worked with said they saw a phone entry in the Houston area Heknawder Titsoff. I never verified that but it was an older lady telling it.

Alright, the unspoken thing here is that all these names are of black people. Whoever in the African-American community started this trend of ridiculous made-up names set back the cause about 20 years...I've heard some doozies in my day. Just for some racial balance, Nick Cage named his son Ka-Lel (yes, after Superman). My favorite Asian name I saw in the phone book, Phat Hung Dong.

My first son will be named Conradius after one of my German ancestors from the 1600s or depending on my mood, Dirk Diggler.

Unless its the same person he isnt the only one with that name. In Roanoke VA twins were born and the mother named them Lemonjello and Orangejello...

The weirdest name I've ever personally seen was Optimus Prime. Someone actually named their kid after a Transformer.

The best name-related prank I've ever seen was in my local phone book about 10 years ago. Someone pulled one over on them and managed to get this listing:

Rection, Hugh G.

I'll have to search for it. I must still have it around here somewhere.
