VIDLED's new LED lights, and stuff

Vidleds are battery powered too, aren't they? You can use NiMH recheargables for the Litepanels micro, as well as any external 4-14V source. But I'm not convinced their output would be enough for my taste. How does the micro compare to halogen lamps? I like to have between 35 and 50W halogen photo-optic bulbs, I can always diffuse them with 216 and/or dim them down when I don't need the full power. I don't think the Litepanels micro will have that kind of power.

*EDIT* according to some users on DVinfo who have the Litepanels Micro, the info on the web page is wrong! The Litepanels Micro obviously can't be run with NiMH rechargeables, and it takes 5V-12V only !!!!

Thanks. But battery power is not really what i'm looking for.
What, you prefer solar power...?

I have AAs for my G2s anyway, so having a few more wouldn´t bother me and the possibilty of just getting a "refill" at a supermarket or gasstation is appealing too!

Hey there,
well, good things are afoot, but those feet aren't very fast! :)

New products probably not until June/July, current models back in production probably by late Feb.

yay for current models at least! Wanna hint at the new products? Like a large vidled similiar to a litepanel 1x1 for dirt cheap and it uses panny batteries? Thats at the top of my list :)

Accu-power. Batteries are expensive on the long run.

I can only repeat what I said above - here's a direct quote from the Litepanels Micro Datasheet:

"[...] And the system can be run off of either standard or rechargeable batteries. Power can optionally be supplied through a convenient 4-14V input jack located on the back of the unit."

I had a recharger for such batteries some years back but the batteries always leaked after some recharges. I think vidleds accu is way easier to use here.

Something like the Litepanels 1x1, maybe like a 6"x6" would be really cool. Half the size, half the price?!

Something that I can fit in my camera bag to take on the plane would be ideal. That way if the "big" lights don't make it that are in checked baggage, we can still shoot. So
how 'bout half the size of a 1x1, 1/4 the price :) Runs on batteries and has a standard 5/8" spud as well as a 1/4-20 thread. Am I dreamin'?

I couldn't wait no more for vidled to pull their act together and I've placed an order for 2 micropanel led lights todays.....seems like a good price performance product and something that my style of guerilla shootings require a lot of times...will let you know my experience when I get those on board

I'm hoping for something with luxeon or lamina LED's
Those things spew out light without the hotspots from typical 5mm LEDs (they cost a bunch though - just look at Zylights pricing)

Yes, 'normal' 5mm LEDs have some "rings' and hotspots. Ours don't really exhibit that though; and the 'pr5oblem' with the Luxeons and Laminas is the optics, which are notoriously troublesome. There's the option of not using any optics (or only the built in ones of the LED engine) but then you're normally faced with a VERY wide angle, of about 120-140 degrees.
