Hello Guys,

Do any of you have any comparisons/preferences you can share with me??? Trying to decide which lens... the Canon is about $3-$4k more expensive.

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Go with nice used SD glass - it will yeild just as good results while saving you a ton of money, and realitively low to no breathing. Hell, you could probably by a couple.

what would you recommend Kit Hanah

Most anything that is either a Canon "J" Series or Fujinon "A" Series Lens. All depends on your application. There are a lot of lens options out there right now, espcially in the SD glass. People and companies are converting to High Definition and there are litterally tens of thousands of SD cameras out there that will be sold off here in the near future, but there are many available now.

Check out all of the used gear sites, even B&H, Ebay, etc have some great deals on lenses. Hunter Richards has a couple nice wide angle lenses for sale right now from Canon and Angieux. Many lenses that were $20k + new you can now find for $2k - $5k because the manufacturers have pounded it in to people's heads that you must have HD glass on an HD Camera. This simply isn't true. Now, will very expensive HD glass look better than SD glass side by side on a true production monitor? Yep. Is it enough of a difference that you will notice when they are not side by side? Nope, not usually. And will you save a crap load of money going with used SD glass? Oh yeah. It really depends on who your clients are. If you're going to be working for James Cameron and George Lucas, then you'll probably want to go with the expensive HD glass. But chances are, most "demanding" clients won't accept the SD glass and probably not the HPX500 for that matter. The other 99.999% won't know the difference. Think about it.

If I were going to go with something in the $3k - $6k range, I would opt for a very wide angle with doubler, like a Canon J9ax5.2B4 WRS, or a Canon J21x7.8 B4 WRSD, somthing to that effect. For me, we just got 2 Fujinon A15x9.5's for $125 each. Svaed me LOTS of money.

Thanks for all the info on SD lenes... However, can someone comment on the original question posted??? Personal prefs and/or comments on the Fuji 17x vs. the Canon 16x7.7 CAC.

I don't know how many folks are actually using the Canon glass yet. Those were pretty hard to come by a few months back, so most went the Fuji route to get up and running.

I hear that the breathing is not as bad on the Canon, but it is still very present.

I have both the Fuji BRM and BERM and am thrilled with both. I am actually blown away when I consider what I payed for them. But I can't speak for the Canon.

I think Barry Green has used both, so you may want to check with him.
