Hvx200a

Let the HVX have the capability to receive an HD signal through its firewire port and output it through the component cables for those of us who can't buy fancy capture cards and decks.

...wish this option was available already because I need to preview HD stuff on a monitor...

This could just be software changes right? so it shouldn't be an issue..i hope..

Bad economy (stock marcket) prevents me from getting the HVX200 at the moment :-(((( So now I have to wait wait wait and maybe this is even good since the HVX200a/HVX300 can't be far away. I just wonder how lang it will take, end of 2008????

I'm not going to read through all 23 pages..... but was the idea of getting timecode off firewire and onto dedicated BNC ports said? And a 1/2" (720 x 1280) sensor instead of 1/3"; So it's native 720 with 50% pixel offset for 1080P.

I like my HVX, its a great camera but saying that, I for one will be selling my HVX once I finish shooting a short this April.
Ok Panasonic has to maintain its core market and adding high end features to the HVX such as AVC-Intra. In the words of Jan is not going to happen. If this is the case and the HVX replacement turns out to be a 1/3 sensor camera even with an interchangeable lense I would not be buying it. Eve with 1/2' I'd be reluctant.

I for one am waiting for NAB to see if Red's Scarlet will be a 2K camera with at least 2/3' sensor, 10bit RAW 4:4:4 if so despite the fact that the form factor may not suite me I think it will throw open the 2-10K market wide open. The limitations of the 1/3 sensor and low light capability coupled with the lack of changeable lense means I need to have a camera with these specs.
Even the HPX 500 while a great camera it is still positioned to compete with the RED a 4K/3K (whatever your take on it camera) I guess it all comes down to quality, price and choice and people will end up voting with their feet or pockets. For me after seeing the quality of the Red One and seeing their dedication to innovation and change I would be looking at the RED One over the HPX, with guaranteed support from Apple and the new Red Finishing and delivery system I think it looks promising.

I am very curious which wishes of the large list eventually will be implemented. But I have the feeling that we will have to wait until end 2008 or even beginning 2009 before there will be a successor.

24pn vs 30p

24pn vs 30p

Whats the difference between 720 24pn, 720 30p, and 1080 60i? Also is there any difference when editing in these different formats?

720 24pn gives the longest shoot times and looks most like film
720 30p gives much shorter shoot times and kind of looks like a cross between film and video
1080 60i gives the shortest shoot times and looks like video although it has about 15% better resolution than the 720 formats.

Man, seriously, there needs to be a new Pana cam hittin' shelves at least by summer. =\

I hope NAB brings somethin' good for us all. EX-1 isn't enough but the more people use it, the more I'm startin' to get tempted to jetison the HVX and get an EX-1 m'damned self.

i wish the HVX200 could select what information it exports over the Component and Composite cables. Like you can choose to output Audio levels, and Timecode only.

This way i can keep the Shooting modes, Framerates and REC indicator on the LCD and keep from cluttering up the Directors/AD's monitor.

Hi Kholi, I wouldn't be so tempted if I were you Kholi. I just spent a couple weeks with the camera, and while it does make nice pictures as you move the camera slowly, I found so many things that were part of the design that were just downright irritating. As an example, the fact that you cannot be reviewing footage and with the push of the record button be back in record. You have to go through the off switch which is a 11-14 second cycle. Yes you can review the last clip but I am not talking about just the last clip. You are showing the producer what you have while waiting for the next bit of action to happen and you cannot do what you can do with any of the P2HD cameras.

I found the metadata implementation to be less than what would be useful as you can only prep or shall I say insert metadata after the fact. The only thing you can do prior is to put in a 4 digit alpha numeric. You can change that later but with the P2 system there is the ability for the Script Supervisor to rule the world.

I found that the ergonmics of the LCD while being nice and having high res, you cannot position it so the focus puller can use it out to the side. It can only aim back to the shooter. And it is a point of failure. On my unit, I slapped it a little hard and now it starts to go dim on its own time, but it does keep self healing.

I found the rolling shutter artifact to be a real disturbance because you now have to be aware of yet another thing in the viewfinder beyond the composition and the story, I mean gone are the days where you composed your shot and had a pretty good idea on what it was going to look like on the time line.

There is not loop record, no pre-record, and the cards are flimsy, nothing like the beefy little P2 card you have been used to. I do wonder why the SxS costs as much as the P2, it is no where near the build and it is not any faster.

I find it weird that I am saying that it is no just about the picture, because for so long that has been my mantra. Here the HVX has a look to the picture that is very pleasing and the rest of the camera just works. ANd I think you really have to take in the entire system. Yes it is a little beefy but it is a little workhorse.

I mean the EX1 is already dated in the Sony product line by virtue of the second generation of Solid State in the two new 1/3" cameras which record on Compact Flash. Where is the commitment to build a system that people can build their next 10 years on. Who can afford a format du jour?

So be patient, all good things come to those that wait.

However be assured that if everything on this list were to be on a new camera, no one including me could afford it. ;-)

Best,

Jan

Jan, the fact that you guys are even looking and taking this list into consideration is a sign we can expect a camera developed with our needs in mind.

I'm sure Panasonic will come out with a killer successor for the HVX- Just no Rolling shutter, please!

Agreed Jan. Whatever you guys have up your sleeves, please keep the global shutter and I could still be very happy with CCDs, especially 1/2 inch ones. CMOS limitations seem more, oh, I don't know, limiting to me.

Best,

Dan

Whoa. I didn't even know this post existed. I'm actually sitting here staring at the RED ONE page (Scarlet) and checking out an EX-1... then I saw this and just kind of relaxed.

I'm shadowing/mirroring what was said two posts ago, but, I can't believe that someone from Panasonic actually comes here to listen to what we have to say.

Thank you.
