notVincent - a horror short

Something like 20 minutes of grain, clipping, and a guy walking through a house saying "f*ck" over and over for far too long with no conclusion or climax. woo

Harsh.

Yes, the ending was anti-climatic, but the journey was alright. It was shot with natural light (and a flashlight) and looked pretty damn good on my PC.

Better than a lot I've seen on here.

Cheers,

Mike

Sorry if that comes off as being too strong, but I always try to be honest about it. I kept waiting for something interesting to happen, and nothing did.

I agree with the ending, I was hoping for a payoff as well.

But the look of the movie is very good IMHO.
Very well shot.

Cheers,

Mike

I disagree. The camera work was pretty good, but it was full of overexposure, grain, and lacking in contrast. Would have been much better if it were darker instead of being so grainy. The music did fit well though, I have to give it that.

Well, we disagree. I thought the look fit the mood perfectly. And so far you are the first to say that it should be darker. Most have previously commented that it was too dark. The framing of the shots was excellent as well.

But... to each their own. :D

Cheers,

Mike

Haha, thanks for watching anyway, I realize it sucks to watch something you think sucks, but I do appreciate the feedback. Again, I don't really defend anything I make, they are what they are, right? The only thing that bothers me is the grain issue - I'm wondering if it's a compression thing (like the other threader's green spill issue that only seems to occur on his work windows machine) because I specifically did no CC once he got in the house in order to keep the grain to it's minimum. I recently burned it to DVD to see it on a television (which pops the gamma higher) and there's a SURPRISING amount of detail even in the darkest images, but not a lot of grain. It's all 0dB, stock DVX grain. I did blow the highlights out in the day exteriors just to match the exposure in the car. The story (heh, what little there is of one) was never going to end satisfactorily (as a story) due to the fact that we had to bang it out so fast (still not an excuse for wasting your time with crap cinema, apologies), but again, I do appreciate the feedback. This was in essence an extended exercise in mood, ambiance and sound (for me) because I've never done a "creepy" movie before (and some would argue have yet to do, haha). I'm disappointed you didn't care for it more, of course, but at least you did dig the music stuff, which is a huge feather in my cap (because it was really REALLY difficult for me to do).

Again, thanks to everyone for their feedback - and Kyser, I'm totally stoked that you liked the images!

The green blocks aren't there as much, but it's still visible. I guess I just have a trained eye to catch these things :)

That screencap and the fact you were shooting at 0db means I probably wasn't seeing it properly. What I saw was quite noisy. With that in mind, I imagine it would be much more watchable at full quality.
