I'm very curious which platform you folks are using Premiere on. Mac, PC, or .......... ????

I've been a PC geek for 30 years but I'm ready to jump ship. Even ordered Production Studio Premium CS3 for the Mac in anticipation of the move.

Thanks

Amiga? Who the f••• still uses that? But I have to say that machine was beast in the early 90's. o30 accelerator, 512 drive, 16 mg ram, and the toaster! RIP AMIGA :violin:

FCP FOR ME

I have known a lot of people that have used Premiere that have changed to FCP and never looked back. From what I do, I find it much better to use the Final Cut Suite integration and ADD AE to that than what Adobe is currently offering. Perhaps if they had listened to their developers in the first place, they wouldn't have moved on to Final Cut.

I use both platforms and use both FCP and Premiere

I prefer Premiere on PC (Windows).

End of story.

My first NLE was an Avid Media Composer. But I now cut in Adobe, having just upgraded from PPro to CS3. It goes against the massive Final Cut tide but using a PC just fits my comfort zone. Yes, I hear the collective sound of clucking tongues but I still get hired and people are very happy with my work.

I'm on a PC and I've been a long time Premiere user and supporter, but with my recent CS3 experiences I'm seriously thinking about jumping ship.

My thoughts... The last time Adobe Premiere sucked was when they supported the MAC platform some 4 years ago... Fast forward to CS3 and we've already seen a LACK of *new* features (not to mention the extremely LATE support for P2/.mxf files) and quirky shi* with Encore, patch updates, etc..

Personally I'm tired of spending hours going through the Adobe Forums trying numerous work arounds just to get my $2000+ suite to work...! Adobe should be on the ball and make sure their product works before it even gets out of Q/A..!

I use the apple platform, but I cut on PProCS3, faster, more stable, responsive and most importantly very easy to use.
I just used final cut this past weekend to edit 18 hours of mixed format footage, down to 2 hours, when you have more than three tracks with cc and effects, playing at the same time it chokes, and this was on a an eight core mac. it seems to only run in real time when you add a Motion effect.
I do like the integration with motion, soundtrack pro and dvd studio pro. version 6.0 of final cut studion is pretty much a copy of CS2, even the interfeaces are single window like adobe's but not quite as slick. you can use most of the effects in After effects in PPro cs3, you just dont get the advanced time line layer properties of AE.
Personally I think they are equally good programs and do the basic editing job very well. But PPro uses my systems resouces more efficiently than FCP does.
Final cut studio 2 is more integrated than CS3. None is more pro than the other, i dont care what people say about the older versions of both programs, I care about the present versions and they are very interopable on the mac, so you can use which ever you want on any given Sunday.

Greetings

Can you give us some details why you prefer the PC platform for Premiere?

Thanks
JohnG

3 main reasons:

I prefer Windows Explorer to Mac Finder which I find clunky to navigate demanding more mouse clicks.

Macs use windows / panes differently to PCs. Less dockeable and often one clicks back to the 'Desktop' - in the space between windows ( which hides the app.)

Macs like to hide stuff from you in illogical locations eg plug in folders. They dont want you messing around in the files at all.

Hi Danny

Are you using OSX for your CS3 apps?

Thanks again................ I appreciate your comments.

Thanks Barry for bringing some order to this thread.

This was NOT intended as a PC vs Mac thread. I want to hear from folks who have current experience using CS3 on both platforms. would like to know how the apps perform/work on each platform.

Regards
JohnG

Yes I use osx 10.5 leopard for my CS3 apps, you have to uninstall quicktime and load an older version.

I however use Win XP pro CS3 on my my mac a lot since a have a few older CS3 projects with plugins on w my windows platform.

whether on the mac or pc CS3 requires at least 3GB of ram.

Just in case anyone is interested....A great enhancement for Windows is Directory Opus...makes file management and many 'day to day' functions far simpler....this program itself is one feature that kept me on the PC!

..and the program has got an Amiga background originally...can't beat it! ;)

Premiere on the PC. I like the OS better (XP Pro). File Management is easier, and yes, I used to be a die-hard mac guy.

Cheaper too, but I have been on-board with Adobe since '95.

Pity there was not a Mac version.

Mac FINDER is a dog and could do with an interface like OPUS. I am generally happy with Explorer though.
