A looooooow cost location monitor

I've never heard of this company, but this is the cheapest LCD monitor I've seen with Component Video Inputs.

Hyvision by Megavision MV220 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor - 5ms, 1000:1, WSXGA+ 1680 x 1050, DVI, VGA, Component Video, Black, Integrated Speakers

I'm shooting a Black and White HVX feature pretty soon in 720p, and I just need something for basic focus. Just the name of the monitor sounds ridiculous, but it has 60+ reviews on Tigerdirect and it has a pretty good rating all things considered. Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks for your help.

Yikes, that's dangerously cheap. Most cheap LCDs are 6-bit, and unsuitable for exposure or color. Most of the people in this forum will probably tell you to save your money. I'd think you'd be better off using focus assist, EVF detail, and a measuring tape.

Even with the integrate 3 watt speakers?!?!?

I realize it's not ideal, but I'd like to just get something that will help with the focus as well as see the image in black and white.

I also came across this one. A little more expensive (which is relative), and it has every connection imaginable. It's supposed to be rebranded dell screens but I'm not sure about that. Not a lot of reviews and a bunch of range. Any and all opinions welcome.

If only the 6-1 card reader included P2. :)

I have a 19 in. samsung computer monitor I got at best buy. It's a SyncMaster 906BW. 19" widescreen.. I just looked on the back and it has a regular blue computer cable slot and a "DVI IN (HDCP). I was wondering if this was a monitor I could use with my hvx in some way? I am not familiar with that DVI IN thing. I got my monitor as a shelf unit for $150. Best $150 I ever spent. I hope I can use it with my camera. Anyone know what this DVI thing is?

its weird, some consumer tvs work well as a monitor - some dont. my 32" samsung lcd hdtv looks like ASS connected to an hvx. but the little $400 sharp 19" looks (conversationally) as good as any of the marshall/ikan/toevision monitors...

i guess its all about what scalers or various internal components they have.

and MB - DVI is a computer input

yeah you could get a $89 box that converts analog component to VGA, then get a VGA to DVI converter for another $19 but it's usually better to get a purpose built LCD TV like the sharp or samsung... it'll look better, imho. than a ramshackle homebuilt pc screen turned tv monitor do-dad. pos image quality if you ask me. i tried it and returned it faster than you can blink. much happier now with the samsung 19" lcd hdtv.

The problem wit TVs is that the tend to "enhance" the picture.
On some you can turn that off - but you never know what they really do.

If you only looking for a better viewfinder, you can get a $50 car backseat display.
Good enough to controll focus - colors are as miserable as on most TFT displays.

This will work for SD, yes.
For HD you either need a high res component in TFT like the Totevision or Ikan (both loooooooow cost:happy:) or just stick with the HVX focus assist, as suggested by ProfesorU...

I´m using that "backseat solution" on my HVX via the sd Y/C connector.

Nothing compared to a expensive high res monitor but better for focusing as the HVX monitor/viewfinder.

I got a second one now for my focus puller and it works allright.

Of course I like to have a HD CRT (not tft panel) monitor for color/ligt/focus but if you on a tight budget....

And as far as I know they don´t make that HD CRTs anymore.
