Cinvate Flip mOdule...just got mine.

Matt Gottshalk

Resident Preditor
Initial impressions:

Built like a TANK, I mean HEAVY.
No screw holes to mount a support like the Letus EX. (THis especcially bothers me because of point 1)
No instructions on how to assemble it onto the Brevis.

Last part kind of pissed me off....a lot.

Don't send me a high quality piece of optical gear w/o instructions on how to fit it on your existing adapter.

Its NOT obvious.

You haven't heard of the whole video university they've released for you guys in the cinevate forum?

You've never seen the brevis support?

I think you should do a bit more research.

You have to do "research" to assemble your product? Please.
You shouldn't have to log on anywhere to figure out how to put your gear together. There should be a hard copy manual. The last Brevis I had didn't have documentation and it pissed me right off too. I had to register and log in and fish around until I found the "secret". Easy for some perhaps, not for me. A manual - easy for everyone.

A manual would be a huge help.

Matty,

When you do get it together would love to know how it tests edge to edge, etc.

Yeah I'm with tim and Matt McGee... doin' research to assemble? Not even a piece of paper to send you there? That's not good.

Should at least include a one-sheet on how to install.

Okay, I saw the Video University footage and it definitely helped.

I still stand by my assertion that the module should have come with printed instructions.

I will be doing a shootout between the Brevis Flip and Letus Flip enhanced ( I own both), with my 2 HVXs and post it soon.

Thanks all.

One HVX, not two. Two can flub the shoot-out. Just use one of them and switch the adapters. =P

Also, set both at the same zoom settings on the camera.

Kholi is right. I started to do my testing with 2 HVX's and then noticed that one HVX was noticeably faster than the other even with the same settings. Slightly different color as well.

I just got my flip as well.

Dennis, if your there - the packing material on the side toward the Brevis unit left some gunk on my glass. What should i clean it with?

Can I suggest getting solid caps for both sides.

I know what you are saying but I think that if it is recorded on a third camera like Dennis did we can trust it. We may not agree with their findings but we saw the process.

I think that the way to do it is two cameras through a switcher on a split screen. That way we can see every chance that is made and the opposite reaction on the screen.

It's because every HVX200 isn't exactly the same. If it were it wouldn't matter. That's what I mean. Some have greater offsets, etc.

why would you compare the letus enhanced to the brevis with flip?

If anything, grab a letus extreme. the letus enhanced is old news.

We are so use to test the latest that I didn't even notice what was included in the test.

Why bother to test a new product and an old one.:Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

One of the reasons I got rid of my Brevis, besides it not being very sharp, was the lack of instructions, difficulty of set-up, wrong parts shipped, etc. For $1,200. + these 35mm adapters better be plug-and-play with ALL the kinks worked out in the R&D phase. I hate when companies use consumers for product testing. We the customers should demand this type of quality and not be so quick to jump and order the minute that a new product is released. I've seen many people spend a lot of coin and then 2-3 months later an upgraded model is announced, then 3 months later another model is announced, etc. These companies should spend more time perfecting their products instead of offering rail systems that aren't to size or follow focus units and other add-ons. Why not focus (pun intended) on making the adapter perfect before releasing it and before offering another product still in development. I don't have the time in my professional life to "figure someting out". If we demand it, it will be delivered.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that then when there's a problem with the adapter it's pointed out that in the fine print on their website that it says that they don't take returns back. If the product was worthwhile there would be a better warranty.

I agree about instructions, chiding adapter manufacturers for their hard work in developing the niche product isn't a good way to get results.
