Rotten Tomatoes 2008? What happened?

I used to love going to this site to skim the clever quotes from critics and regular folks alike... the web page was fun to look over as it was spread out like the page of a comic book.

They would have bold quotes for more important critics or more clever quotes... and the mix of fresh tomatoes and green splats. It was fun seeing a movie that was overwhelmingly high or low rated and then seek out a splat or tomato of dissent!

Now the page says "beta" at the top and somebody needs to smack them over there. Did I miss the old format, which still exists? Please tell me I did.

When there's a movie you want to know about... without knowing the movie... I found that to be a fun and interesting site to cement my decision to go or pass. Now the site itself appears to be taking a DRAMATIC step BACKWARD.

this new version sucks. it's more confusing and harder to navigate. the color scheme is worse and the ads seem to take up more space.

I've also been using Rotten Tomatoes at least once a week for years, and I agree the new design is so bad I won't use it anymore.

I sent an email to customer service asking if there's some way to access the old/original site. Didn't hear back from them, and I didn't really expect to, but maybe if they get enough emails from people they'll reconsider.

I'm embarrassed to admit this but I have never been to the Rotten Tomatoes site. I've always been strictly an IMDB guy. It shapes my entire movie menu. What I will see. What I won't see. What I want to see first...etc.

Is Rotten Tomatoes another version of this?

Yeah, this re-do has been a total failure. It's amazing that in 2008 you can still have such clueless design decisions. They just made the site practically unusable. Just try the search function. Now the results are a mess of spammy looking links - ugh. Disgusting. That's what happens when bean counters and the finance managers take over. The site was a money maker, and that attracted the finance guys like flies to sh|t; now they got the bright idea to squeeze the maximum money out of this they can, and in the process destroyed whatever it is that made it worthwhile in the first place. Sigh... that's why we can't have nice things. Oh well.

I hope they fail. I used to use them quite a bit. We need some other site to take over. A site that understands that when you update a look, you should make it more user friendly, not less user friendly. Seems basic, but you'd be surprised just how stupid the soulless bean counters are; may they rot in hell.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks the new UI blows. Why do sites feel compelled to change for the sake of change?
