notVincent - a horror short

Taking a look now. The audio seems weak. Lighting was also a bit to dark.

What the heck was that at the end?

It went on to long IMO.

Strangely enough, I didn't do any CC on the dark footage (it's all grain), but in a dark room with your eyes accustomed to the screen, there's a surprising amount of subtle detail in the image, way more than I thought there would be. But this is what you get when you light with a 6volt flashlight, heh. And audio is absolutely sub-par - audio will never be my forte, but it was a tremendous exercise in more ways than one! Thanks for watching (and you're not the only person who feels it's too long, ha).

I liked it for the most part. Nice look. Cool sound design. Did you shoot with the EX1? Your actor is good. He looks good on camera and he's a pretty good actor by the looks of it. He repeated the same word too many times for me. The piece could be much shorter overall. And only other criticism was I felt the ending wasn't there, but I realize this was more experimental (it's just that he DID have a gun, and he WAS sort of a tough guy--I think he'd have ventured in to help Vincent, no?).

Scary ass place.

The photo from the poster is my desktop now...:D

what the hell else is there to say? honestly, you discover a series of tunnels in a safe house leading to your partner being tortured and most likely eaten by an angry shadow thingy......... dude......ig......... it just dawned on me..... we toooootally shouldve gotten a WACKY WAVING INFLATABLE ARM-FLAILING TUBE MAN! for that shot. omg omg omg that wouldve been soooooo funny.

i got distracted, sorry. what i meant to say is that i live in a rated "R" world, and im pretty confident that a guy who just robbed an armored car does also. "bad" words are a part of my daily vocabulary. "get out of the darn truck and put yer golly darn guns on the gosh darn ground," tends to strike laughter in the hearts of victims, not fear.

the first words out of my mouth, when i saw the raw footage, were "wow, i say f**k a lot." three guys, on any given sunday, a flash light, no dialogue, vague story, uncomfortable property, go........ f**k.

I thought the suspense was well played out, although I didn't see how the opening worked in favor of the story as he says "why did you leave" when he goes back to find him there...hmmm maybe I'm missing something.

That's an incredible location, that house is seriously creepy and the lighting worked to your advantage but damn that ocmpression really sucks. Lots of green spills. The audio was good, I like the fact that he was talking to himself in that way (hell I would too) so it was very realistic. I thought the language was appropriate for the character so I wasn't bothered by it, I just took it as his nature to curse a lot (which I'm starting to realize a lot of people just don't understand character driven language).

Great job!

I didnt get any green spill when I viewed it. What are the times when it happens? And as far as the dialouge, I was saying the same thing as Ivan when we were going through the tunnels. Its just a freaky place that I wouldn't want to be caught alone in.

It was shot on a stock DVX100B, 24pa, 1/24, squeeze.

Interesting note, I thought it might be cool to capture an actor's genuine reactions, so I didn't tell Ivan (one-take wonder that he is) anything more than "It's a creepy f*cking house, you gotta come see it - but dress like a bank robber ... and here, hold this gun." And I didn't let him explore ahead of the camera either, so he's trying to ride his own reactions to the place just like everyone else and still maintain some semblance of a character, and everyone who enters that place says the same thing - "What the f*ck?" Haha!

Haha, yes it would have - your last reaction/line just makes me laugh out loud every time, in direct opposition to whatever horror is happening off-screen!

It's a problem with the compression, which you can see here in the mirror (the green blocks all over the place) and it happens a lot in the film.

Loved it! Minus the ending...
It just left me with zero reward for watching the tension build. Had there been something to really see... then the wait would have been well worth it.

Still, I thought this was really great! Great composition of shots, nice camera movement, nice use of natural light.

Very well done.

Wow, that's not how it looks on my screen at all. Any idea why it would look different on different screens (obviously, compressing is an art to itself, one which I'm not super savvy with).

It could be that my comp at work is a POS :D which it is, will check it tonight on my mac when I get home. But still, it's strange to me that it shows up like that.
