Winter, a Fairy Tale

So about last night's shooting.
Two HVX's, One Advanta Jib Light, Six banks of DayFlo lights, some cranky effects machines and a bunch of cold cast and crew. Everything had been running for hours and the second I said action, the circuit blew and we were in the dark.

Ouch.
Were you able to it up and running again?

By the way - I'm glad to see I'm not the only one shooting with a bunch of flos.
On of our actors told us yesterday - "you know, usually I'd be happy to work under lights that weren't so hot - but did you have to use these in the winter?"
:)

We re-routed some lines and got back up and running in a couple of minutes. Rest of the night was hitchless. Everyone was really cold but no one was whining or B****ing about it. Everyone was really polite and helpful. Now to edit.
Luis, if you stand right in front of my 16 head bank of flo's you can almost feel some warmth.

Damn - I could have used a 16 bank flo last night.

(of course, i think you were shooting at the same time)

Glad to hear you got up and running with reatively little time lost.
I really can't wait to see what you put together.

Here's a taste of what you might be seeing in the very near future...

I still can't get over the weather. Rain for two nights prior to filming and then we got perfectly clear and still (you'll see why). Cold? Yes. Freezing? (as predicted) No. Damn near perfect? Yup. Tonight? Cold, cloudy-ish and windy.

I think it's really important to let everyone know, we didn't use any cg effects in this film. Yes, there is post work on the image, but nothing was added to it. Everything in the frame was in the frame when we shot. This said, here is a grab from last night.

I'm rather pleased with what we have captured so far. And the team is really doing the best job ever.

Strange things have been happening surrounding the making of this short. Weather, actors, equipment, peoples schedules, and more have been aligning to see to it we get everything we need.
The technical art department head was over yesterday to see how the footage was looking and saw a very, very rough edit of a scene. He remarked how he's all into the filming and editing and by the time the project is finished he is sort of like, "ok, cool, next project." This one is different he said, this time he can't wait to see the finished film, he wants to see how it ends.

Sorry guys but no pictures of the fairy until the film screens. I don't want to ruin the fun.
Just a correction on Johnny S's comment about make up and wardrobe having fun.
Make up had fun, hair had fun, wardrobe was up until 5 am sewing a fairy/ nymph costume. Fun was not a part of the program. No fun was had, nor would fun have been tolerated.:violin:
However, the wardrobe department would like to add, they can think of nothing else they would rather have been doing. (they are not very imaginative)
It's fascinating to see how much goes into the costumes and the sets and everything else, and how little of it winds up visible in the end.
With this in mind, I now formally announce the Great Wild Imagination Easter Egg Hunt. Our film contains a multitude of intentionally inserted "Easter Eggs."
I encourage everyone to watch the film for enjoyment first, and then go back and see how many tiny, and not so tiny, items and objects you can find. After the judging begins, I'll make the list available to everyone. Then it's your job to find them. The first person to find them all will get a signed copy of the dvd.

From the technical art department...

This is the layout for our set. The plans were done in 3-d and 2-d with all the specs for the amount of materials we need calculated. Construction begins Wednesday. Shooting on Saturday. There is a lot to do for this part of the film, but it's going to pay off in the end.
