Well, you shot keys and a dirty lamp with your new SB-800, congrats! Just wait till you use it for real stuff!

I'd give you thoughts but... it's keys and a dirty lamp, what do want? Go shoot someone, or something not so... boring :) I'd love to see what you get, the SB-800 is awesome.

lol

you know, i was playing with the off camera operations last night... fun stuff, though my eyers are a bit worse for wear. it is funny, the little booklet that comes with it (with example shots), it is a great marketing tool to get you to buy 2-4 of these flashes, and it is rather effective.

i used a 28-70 f2.8 at about 70. with a old flash, in front of his face. there was a lamp behind and above him. in PS did some desat and levels.

Shot a little today with a friend, I am really starting to love this flash. Awesome control.

Ah, nothing like a new SB-600, I sleep with mine :)

After a while when you get comfortable with it, your images will really pop. What is your WB set at in that second image? Looks like A or cloudy. If you shot in RAW, go into NX and change the WB to daylight, I bet you'll get an awesome result. The skin tone alone will make for a sweet image.

I rented the 85mm 1.8 the other day and I'm renting the 85mm 1.4 next week when I shoot some more clients. I want to see just how big a difference these two lenses are before I buy one. To be honest, the 85mm 1.8 was good, but I seriously couldn't get better results than from my 70-300mm cheapy lens. I got the same tack-sharp skin and buttery bg with that one as the 85 1.8. But, I only used it for one day and never really found my sweet spot, I need to try that one again.

Good luck man, have fun with that flash! I use it off camera for all my headshots with a shoot-through and a reflective umbrella, depending on the client/mood. I plan to step up to the 800 real soon.

(okay, I can't figure out why the images are appearing as links and not inline, but it's past my bedtime.)

Flickr works. I use it all the time. Click on the All Sizes Button, then the Medium Size, then grab the URL from below the picture. Get the URL only and not all the other code they use. Then post it here usings
. You can also link that if you want to the main URL from the pictures main page.

If you are a bokeh fan then you will love the 85 1.4... it is just really smooth and buttery like (if that makes sense).

Alveraz, if you have a chance rent the 70-200 f/2.8 and shoot some headshots with that. You will see a ton of sharpness, as long as you use a tripod it is completely manageable. Enjoy!
