There Is No Softening When Moving the EX1

The "dirty little secret" of the Ex1 lens is CAC (Chromatic Aberration Correction).

It controlls CA, but only as long as the lenses (zoom) are not moving.
So you will notice pretty much CA while zooming.

Maybe it is somehow connected to that skewing/bluring as well.

I'm not sure why it's dirty and it certainly is not a secret - Juan Martinez from Sony has spoken openly about CA correction for both the stock lens and wide angle adapter.

One of the advantages of a non-interchangeable lens camera is greater integration between camera and lens. This feature reduces CA in the final output and is able to do so while making the lens lighter and less expensive. It's technology put to good use.

It has nothing to do with skewing.

I could see it affecting image sharpness overall, and when the camera is moved, if OIS is on.

BTW, CA can be reduced in post, too, if the lens geometry is well established and can be counteracted.

Barry, Mikko got a chance to compare a CCD and a CMOS camera on a scope over the weekend and is going to be writing a paper on what he found. I'm looking forward to reading it. I know that you mentioned that there was a chance you might get your hands on an EX1 over the weekend. Any chance that came to pass, and if so, any updates for us on this thread?
