Tabletop Photography with HPX500 & HVX200

I got the P+S technik skater bug last year and ended up building a DIY version with a heavyduty ballhead (it supports a full size camera). I had the chance to use it on a few projects last year. This genre is turning out to be one of my favorites.

Shot with a mix of HPX500 and HVX200. Tell me what you think.

I am slowly learning how to properly shoot and light for tabletop. I am hoping to improve in this area in 2008. If you haven't made a mini-skater yet, you should!

flows together nicely. Waiting to have a crack at that letus relay.

And I agree with Tom, the HPX clips stand out.

it looks like all the beginning shots, wine food coffee are HPX and from the statues and table it's hvx, although I find it a close call. I disagree that the HPX stands out clearly.its small and compressed clip.
lets see how close the cameras are.

All of the clips were from the hvx200, except: The coffee beans falling, The hair products, and the statues at the end. When your doing tabletop with smaller objects, its easy to get good focus fall off, even with 1/3" cameras.

I already knew the statues were on account of the letus clip. All the others I thought were from HVX. Coffee beans shot is mixed in with all the other and its a limited shot so no way to tell at this size.

Hunter,
since you told us that most of the shots were HVX, do you know the settings you shot in, because I find the shots very clean for the hvx, that's were I thought it was mostly shot on HPX

Sure, On the HVX I had the detail on +2 with the master ped @ -2. The reason they look "clean" is from light. I used a lot of light for tabletop with the hvx. I had the ND on full-blast for most of those shots.

The Hvx just needs a little more fill lights.

thanks youre right, a lot of light and you have clean shots where HPX 500 does it with a lot less light. I just received my HPX. man I love it, real differance though with HVX. very clean shooting.
