is the dueladapter troublefree on PCs yet?

Hi, folks. Doing some research, I see that many people have used the DuelAdapter for using P2 cards in laptops with only ExpressCard slots (http://www.duel-systems.com/products/adapters.aspx).

Many of these posts mentioned that there were "growing pains" and whatnot. I haven't been able to find a concise post that explains whether there are any problems with the adapter these days.

Is there a final verdict on the adapters yet? My cousin uses 16GB P2 cards that he wants to dump onto a laptop while in the field, and it would make life much easier if he could buy a more modern laptop (which all come with ExpressCard slots, as you folks know).

Thanks a lot!

Of course not, but the highest percentage of users of the HVX200 are Mac based.

If you revisit the issues you've read about here, I would venture that those related to Mac laptops.

Hi,

Stay away from the duel adpater for PC. Get the addonics. It works perfectly!

and I believe that it may have started as HVX200 users having MACS early on, but I think by now the number of PC and mac users is getting closer to each other percentage wise....especially with all the new workflows available on windows.

The "issues" as I have seen them with both the Duel, and Addonics adapters are related to use on Macs. I haven't really seen widespread issues reported for either of them when used on PC's.

I think that is where the initial ? came from to your original post.

Haven't heard much about the Duel-Systems adapter in some time. The addonics has been reported to work well on PC's, but like the Duel-Systems has issues with Macs.

I use the Duel Adaptor on a Dell laptop (Inspiron) without any trouble. There were some reports here about HP PCs having problems.

I would also like to hear about the current state of the "Duel solution"...
For Mac and PC please :engel017:

I have an HP9060 and have written Duel several times since I rec'd my adapter last May. It has never worked (although recognized by the HP) because Duel claims incompatibility (now) with the HP 6000 and 9000 series laptops.

They kept telling me for months they were working on it. But, after the last email a month ago, I asked whether I should put it on eBay and didn't get a "No, we're almost there' answer. Doesn't seem like a priority to fix these issues with Duel.

Anybody want to buy my Duel? I hear it works great on Dell's and Macs!

I feel your pain Mark!...that's why i got rid of mine and got the Addonics one.... works on everything PC (not MACs though) and it doesn;t need a driver!

The Addonics is definitely a lot cheaper, and someone correct me if I'm wrong... but it supports Vista, while the Duel-Adapter does not?

I'm thinking of getting one as I just bought an itty bitty new laptop with a 250 gig HDD that might make a good sometime p2 offloading solution.

Later,
Jason

the addonics wroks on all PC notebook in XP and Vista and requires no special software. and it is indeed much cheaper. If you are going to use PC laptop only (and no Macs) then it's a no brainer. Get the Addonics!

The Duel Adapter is the biggest POS i've ever used in my LIFE! I got mine today and after 4 hrs of trying to get it to work i threw in the towel. I'm running a DELL inspirion w/Vista HP. I got all the latest drivers and did everything correctly and nothin' P...O...S!!!

Sorry, just had to vent. So now after i return it i'm gonna have a look at the Addonics aswell.

Ben.
