The Student Film Vow Of Chastity

Haha, Max...great story with the Bourbon. I can see that being a little bit of a problem.

You also managed to forget the
"One man, One desire"
Line :D

not to mention the record scratch, followed by that song that goes "hey, hey, hey, hey!!!"

The 'Peter Gunn' theme seems to make a lot of student-film appearances, too (was guilty of invoking it myself, back in school...)

Everyone has to say the "F" word a lot (and I don't mean "fudge"). Oh, and you need bumpy dolly shots. Lots of bumpy dolly shots. And don't forget to show your character reading. Lots of insert shots are essential as well. One more thing: music should always juxtapose the images. For example: play a happy and/or energetic song over a scene of violence. Remember: Scorsese and Kubrick did it--that means it'll make your film good too. Or you can do the opposite and use songs about what you're seeing on screen. So if people are doing cocaine, you should use a song that talks about, or references, doing cocaine.

This thread is great!

Sitting in class I think I have seen each and every one of these examples. So true, so true... I don't really understand the need for a gun to appear out of nowhere in a student film or the alarm clock... weird....

Yay - I think the idea i next wanna make only has maybe one or two of those vows in it. Woohoo!

However, when you think about it, some of the 'vows of chastity' are actually sensible things to do when used in the right situation. Using it in a bad situation is what makes student films student films.
