NYC Times Square EX-1 footage

very clean, very nice. I like the EX's Picture. And anyone saying it looks Videoey.... Cmon..... it looks nice. Kodak Vision 3 is pristine and clean..... So is a DSLR. And i think they look amazing.

Digital and emulsion are both making great advances.

Digital is just doing so exponentially and will very soon eclipse emulsion.

nsc, when you went out to record that footage, any particular camera tweaks, like cine gamma curve, matrix and/or details adjustments, etc? Thank you.

Gahd this thing is incredible at night. I'm not sure if it's because there's so many lights out in Time Square anyway, but still.

keep in mind guys.. everyrhign looks better on a pc monitor, i'm sure if u plaed the same clip on a tv it would look great but u could still tell that it is video-ish.

Not with a newer plasma or lcd.

Same same...

In fact.. the newer plasmas and lcds are shooting for a 1080p 120hz standard this year.

So we might very well need all this detail very soon!

Has nothing to do with it being video. It'll look even better on a television, though. Just so y'know. PC monitors are notorious for makin' footage look like garbage. Televisions are more prone to hidin' LOTS of flaws.

Times square is a F2.8 @ 500ASA stock. Or a F2.0 @ 320 ( HVX) I shot Times square during the Ball drop for NYC & Co. and i had NO problem getting an exposure

Ah, I kinda figured there was plenty of light out there but there's also the apparent lack of noise here and the extraordinary night exposure at the same time.

Show us some HVX Times Square stuff, Timur!

EX-1 can produce, there's no doubt about that.

The EX1 is remarkable in low light. I willing to believe the HVX200 would of shot some nice stuff too at times square.

Well most of our films don't consist of cams on sticks shooting wide urban landscapes hehe, obviously both cams can make that look incredible but tje most interesting comparison to me is the films people make. Understandably it will take some time for folk who've ordered the ex to recieve and familiarise themselves with it etc. However I look forward the most to seeing some entries from that cam in Lovefest etc!

Re nightime Ex-1 footage:
. Someone told me there was footage somewhere of a police car with the flashing light on top that broke up the rolling shuuter. Has anyone else seen that?

Thanks everyone,
Those images are very helpful. Doesn't stop me from buying the camera, but it definately is a drag. I wonder how it would look if you just overexposed the images completely and turned them into flash frames.

Or perhaps douybe exposed the 2 frames with opposite flashes - wouldn't be perfect but maybe a useful fix when there isn't too much movement.

Has anyone tried these kinds of post-fixes yet?

Lenny

Lenny. listen to the podcast on the EX1 at FreshDV.
They both think the camera produces amazingly clean high rez images. They liked it.
The memory based work flow was "similar" to P2.
They were surprised that the 35mb codec appeared to hold up better than the DVCPRO 100. At least from the post grading they did on the EX1 compared to the HVX200. The EX1 had less macroblocks. Don't even get me going on this one...

What they didn't like was the ergonomics.
They didn't care for the rolling shutter, but mentioned it all depended on the application. (Of course). They found skew and partial exposures, which we all know are there when the condition is forced.

It was a very good listen.
