Zoom Equivalents on DVX to 35mm lenses?

I was wondering if anyone knew any kind of conversion formula or conversion table that shows what the different zoom settings on the DVX100B are equivilant to a 35mm camera. I found a thread saying:
"A 50mm lens projecting to a 35mm film plane = 50mm.

A 50mm lens projecting to a 1/3" (roughly 8mm) digital chip plane is magnified by 'X' times. "

Any ideas?

The conversion factor is 4.4x the cinema 35mm size, or 7.2x the still-camera size.

So a 50mm lens on a DVX = about a 360mm lens on 35mm still camera

A 50mm lens on a DVX = about a 220mm lens on a 35mm movie camera.

So like if I wanted to simulate the perspective of a 50mm lens on a 35mm camera, what zoom setting on the DVX100B would that be?

No, the Z00-Z99 scale doesn't equate to mm. I published a chart that had mm equivalencies in The DVX Book, do you have a copy of that? I think I also posted it here on the forum but it was probably two or three years ago so you'd have to search it out...

Hmm..I do not have your book and I could not find your post after searching. I found a related post though that said 100Z=325mm and 1Z=32.5mm

So 325/4.4=74

Therefore 100Z=74mm lens on a 35mm motion picture camera?

Wait so a 50mm lens on a 35mm motion picture camera would be like Z15.4 on the DVX?

No, but it would be like a zoom setting of 11 mm on a DVX. The "Z" numbers don't directly equate to mm (i.e., z11 does not mean a focal length of 11mm).

Does anyone know the conversion factor from focal length to "Z" numbers on the DVX100B?

EDIT: Oh wait..that's what those numbers on the zoom ring are for...heh
Wait a minute so that means a standard 50mm lens on a 35mm motion picture camera is around Z50 on the DVX?! Can anyone confirm this? I've never shot 35 so I'm not sure if this is accurate.

A 50mm lens on a 35mm movie camera will be about equivalent to 12mm on the DVX. There's a chart in the DVX Book that shows all the equivalencies.

Yeah, so the numbers on the zoom ring represent focal length, right? If so then it's around Z50 which is quite a lot of zoom so I wasn't sure if that's the equivilant of a 50mm on a 35mm motion picture camera. (I've heard 50mm is like the "standard" lens when shooting 35? not wide nor tele) I don't have the DVX Book.

The numbers on the zoom ring are actual focal lengths, yes. The numbers in the viewfinder (i.e., Z50) are not.

Yeah sorry for the confusion I just found that at the equivilant focal length it was around Z50. That's crazy how wide the DVX shoots compared to a "normal" lens on a 35mm motion picture camera.

One other question regarding this topic of converting focal lengths between formats...
I have a Pentax K100D Super (Interline interlace CCD with a primary color filter
Size: 23.5mm x 15.7mm (diagonal line: 28.40mm)) and I wanted to know the focal length on it that would be equivalent to a 50mm lens on a 35mm motion picture camera. Barry, I know you gave me the conversion factor for 35mm still camera, but I'm guessing it's different for a DSLR's smaller sensor size.

Any ideas on converting 35mm MPC focal lengths to DSLR focal lengths if my CCD is 23.5mm x 15.7mm?
