The Droids You're Looking For (Music Video)

Hey guys,

I've done like, one music video before. It was good fun. Good times were had, but that was a long long time ago. I've gotten much better since then and figured I should try my hand at it one more time.

A few friends of mine had a band with some songs I really liked, so basically...we got together for a few days and I shot a music video for them. Did it with no crew, just myself and the trusty HVX.

In the end, I think it turned out pretty well. We got some suprisingly good locations for how ill-prepared we were, and it gave me some good chances to use my crane and dolly.

Of course there are some things terribly wrong with it, but if I told you those things it wouldn't be any fun. So tell me what you think. Enjoy!

You had a lot of really cool shots. Nice editing there too!

Your crane movements worked more often than not, so good stuff on giving it a go! Cranes are tricky to work with.. especially if you dont have a remote tilt, which I suspect you didn't.

I really want to be able to do something like this video one day with my mates. That way I'd have a good demo reel to show to other prospective bands who will pay me for my services! Hopefully I'll get my hands on an HVX soon.

..but back to your video, GREAT JOB! Can't wait to see more work.

cool, pretty neat!

some of the shots were over exposed though. I know thats difficult when your shooting in broad daylight, especially through the trees, but i would have exposed for the highlights.
The song was nice, not over produced so it sounded original. And the video was fun, so it complimented the song nicely.

I think my color correction also helped to overexpose a lot of it much more than it was at first...Especially with the bear running back and forth, I brought the whites up way too much and it sorta killed it. I really should fix it...but, perhaps later.

But, expose for the highlights and not the subject? The shots I'm specifically thinking of now would be when they're like "hot on the trail" looking for the tracks of the bear. Would you have exposed for the subject, or the blown highlights behind them? Then done something in post to bring them up...or?

Anyways, thanks for the comments guys. Glad you're enjoying it.
