To owners of HD-DVD players, including me--

HD DVD only has Paramount and Universal now. BLU RAY has SONY, WARNER, DISNEY & PIXAR, 20th CENTURY FOX, NEW LINE.

Not to mention Lions gate to the Blu-ray list. They are a young studio and may not have thousands and thousands of titles, but they have had some significant title releases in recent years which I'm sure has helped blu-ray.

But who are we kidding? The real future of distribution is through the internet! ;)

If Microsoft would have packaged the 360 with the HD-DVD player I'm sure they wouldn't be in the position they are now since a good majority of consumers use their gaming system for their media player and XBOX is still crushing the sales over the PS3. Oh well, I haven't invested in either and I have been waiting for one of them to get phased out before I buy a HD or BluRay burner for my computer.

good thing i got both lol. but yah for blu ray its been the better image since the start.

Oh, and DVD = Digital Versatile Disc, not 'Video' :)

:) yep you are right....Still HD DVD makes more sense than Blu-ray. To whoever said if Microsoft bundeld HDDVD with every system this would be a different story that is true. Stand alone HD DVD players have sold a lot more than stand alone Blu-Ray players.

well i know alot of people bought ps3 for bluray since it as the cheapest bluray player at the time being 600 dollars now at 400 thier are blu ray players now only 299 so ps3 pretty much was the blu ray player to get for the while. so i can see that statement being some truth. i mean for the longest time my ps2 was my dvd player.

If you want to go by anecdotal evidence, I don't know anyone who does, including quite a few who have at least one gaming console.

I'm sure many do, especially in the under-25 crowd. But a "great majority of consumers"? I'd need to see some numbers to believe anything close to that.

PS3 has sold 5.4million systems since launch all with bluray included. 360 has sold close to 13million systems but the HD-DVD player is a seperate purchase of $179.00

I would say 18million gaming systems sold is enough to be considered a majority number. If the HD-DVD player was included in the 360 they could have had the edge on the market.

I'm still not sure I will put my HD DVD player with dvds in the market place or ebay quite yet....I just wonder how much longer Paramount and Universal will back HD DVD now.

18 million gaming systems vs. 130 million DVD players sold (in the US alone, through July '07) is a majority?

Besides, while you can be sure that DVD players are used for watching DVDs, you can't know if the gaming systems are used for anything but games, or if they're used as the only media player even if they are.

sony markets it self as an entertianment system. just like the nes did back in the day. if anything ps3 is shaping the blu ray technology, and the film industry takes notice. though the sales of the system are low give it another year it will pick up.

( a year now) i have a ps3 i own 17 blu rays.
(longer too for like 2 years) i own a hd dvd player... i own 6 hd dvd.

perhaps since i can play my ps3 i want to buy more for it sublimially lol?

I am only refering to BluRay and HD-DVD the "130 million" you are stating is DVD player sales. Can you find the number of total BluRay and HD-DVD stand alone player sales? I checked myself but I didn't have any luck.

That's a mighty big piece of a mighty big pie right there.

Either Paramount or Universal switches, and it's all over if you ask me.
