Canon user thread - post your pictures here

Hey guys, you still alive? :D

Not so much new stuff since I left. Had to move to a different city and I´m happy to say that I finally own the 50mm 1.8. :)

I know lots of people said that before but I can´t help it: I love this lens. :)

I can now shoot in lighting situations which I never imagined being possible and of course the DOF... great.

But then again... I had to take pictures of cars.^^

edit: Rick, some professional-looking pics you got there. I see you changed your name. Why is that?

Hey PT! Merry holidays. Glad to see you back! As usual...love your sexy car shots. Love the wheels in this shot. They pop!

Funny...I am/was just about to post my first photo from my new 50mm 1.8 lens. Funny you just mentioned it. I had the lens once, I dropped it, it broke but my gf hooked me up with another for Christmas...and like you I love this lens.

I changed my name because someone else requested that a mod change their handle to their actual name and I was feeling "in the spirit" and thought I'd start using my real name. Scary in a weird way. But, wtf? Might as well be myself...

Rick
PS This is my dog. I inherited her from my mother. Her name is Chelsea-Belle.

Thanks Rick, so you have the lens again. It must be love. ;)

Haha cool dog. I assume we will see some more stuff with him?

Yeah very scary this thing about the name. Luckily I remembered your avatar. Otherwise it would have been difficult.^^
I always wondered what the meaning of your old name was...

rlm7189? Initials. Rlm Rick Lee Meyer. 7189...born in 71 grad highschool in 89....seems like a silly number combo but i was using it for years for other things....

Yeah Chelsea is a she and is very comfortable in front of the camera. She is used to the drill. She'll sit patiently for over an hour. She'll keep the hat on...shes a very mellow pom.

But back to the lens...yeah. I'm happy to have it back. I couldn't justify buying another one yet...I just started getting the hang of it when i dropped it....so its nice to have it back....

love that 50mm

love that 50mm

Glad y'all both got a 50mm 1.8 - I LOVE that lens. When I got my 24-70mm, the 50mm ended up staying in the bag. I recently found the need for a second body (bought a 40d) and moved the L glass to it. And the 50mm went back on the XT. I forgot how much I loved that combo. I'll have to post a photo later... of my less than cooperative 4 yr old daughter.

Chad

As mentioned above, my totally uncooperative 4 yr old. I'll admit it was quite cold, so I don't blame her. A cold front came through while we were at the inlaws' house and I wasn't paying attention to the weather to know to bring a coat. This is her "I'm ready to go inside" face. It's not really a great photo, but I thought it was funny... and it shows that great shallow DOF you get with the 50mm.

Rebel XT - 50mm 1.8 - 1/160 - f/2.8 - ISO 100

And here's the little one. I was taking pictures at a Christmas party for my mother inlaw and my 10mo old crawled up to me. What shocked me was how good it turned out considering it was at 1600 ISO. I know the reduced size image doesn't show noise as much as the full size... but the full version isn't that bad. I just barely bumped the noise reduction slider in Lightroom and that took out a good bit of it. I've taken pictures at ISO 800 that looked a lot noisier. If I recall... since I was shooting at 1600, I think I intentionally overexposed it just a tad and brought it back down in LR (thanks to the advice from another thread in this forum).

My dad's dog in the pond. She's a 4 year old German Wirehaired Pointer.Canon Rebel Xti. 70-200 mm 2.8 lens. Shot at F5, 1/1600, ISO 400. It's a bummer that I cut off her nose as she shot out of the pond!

Cute kid. So, how much do you absolutely love that 24-70mm L series lens??? It's been on my want list for quite some time. I can tell just by looking at this pic that it was an L series lens. The colors, the detail. My 70-200mm 4.0L gives off the same kind of detail. Love it. Can't wait to get one.

I think this was with the XT (its not my camera and I honestly only used it one day. THATS THE TRUTH!!!!!) This is the FIRST picture I took. I swear!

Thank you!

I love it... might as well glue it on 'cause it's not coming off... at least not until I can afford more L's. The first thing I noticed when I got it was the color... way better than the "nifty fifty". On the downside, it doesn't seem quite as sharp wide open as the 50mm is, but it's sharp enough. It's just that the 50 is SO sharp and that's what I was used to.

I mentioned (a few posts ago) that I forgot how much I loved the combo of the XT w/ the 50mm. It's small, light, fast... but you can definitely see a difference in the colors.

Wow Rick, those birds can really stare. :D Nice comp.

Mig - Amazing. How much of that is post?

Yeah, I know. I should have titled the photo (in Robert Deniro voice)"you looking at me".

Mig...nice shot. I agree with PT's question...how did you achieve the background of this shot?

Not very much actually
The background was kind of pink-orange. So I just played with the levels in the red area and messed around with the color balance. Took down the contrast at the end by adjusting the Output Level.

The light source is just a lamp in my living room. :)
